Well I've been watching tese guys for a while and I thought I'd wage in here, after not commenting for so long. I'm not going to nag about being happy with results that aren't your best, as I do that too :D . I just wanna say that I never wanted to do the whole paint thinning thing too, as I thought it wasted paint as well. The same with mixing colours, never wanted to do it and still dont. But I gave thinning a go recently (in a similar fashion to you) and I found it has really helped. Might I ask what style of paints you are using? That is do you use GW paints, or Vallerjo or some other sort. Causer I'm just wondering.

All in all I like your colours scheme and I have noticed some improvement over the course of your thread, I feel, however, with just a few adjustments to your painting you could produce really great looking models.

EDIT: Oh and looking forward to seeing your latest pics. Ignore my previous comments until I see them.

Well nice to hear I've got a follower :) Paints wise I'm using the GW paints and have done from the start. Well, almost. The green is from P3 Forumla and a mix of that plus GW Hawk Turquoise (poured into the pot ;)). Yes I agree thinning paints are a heacahce and have resorted to the palette trick now which is paying off.

I'll keep trying things as I go along (despite what I've said before about being lazy :P) and hopefully they'll be of a better standard than before. Thanks for looking :(

Dreadnought Xavier (Ironclad/Venerable)

NOTE: Will have more pics when the banner is done.

The Dreadnought with all that black looks cool but looking at the Tactical squad gives me the impression they were painted by Colours of Chaos. It really hurts my eyes just from looking at them. The painting is clean but the colours are just to striking for my own taste.

Cheers

Wow, that is one intimidating dreadnought.

Cool! :ermm:

Thanks Graymantle :) Hopefully it'll scare some Guardians off :P

Well I'm glad you liked the dread but the base scheme I can understand. I've had a few people like yourself thinking it looks oh so wrong. But as I say; "Each to their own".

Here's my latest addition: Count-as Chronus (on foot). I wanted something diffferent for this guy (named Lucanus) so that he stands out from the rest of my army should he end up running about. Hence why I tried the Viva Metallica method on him, and it's worked nicely

Okay people. What good is a Dreadnought without his ride into battle? Not so great it has been noted. So here is Xavier's drop-pod.

This is Chief Librarian Cail on his bike. I wanted something that can be both a librarian and a Khan count-as, I think I've got it right :D

Hiya :D good effort i like the colour scheme, but if you don't mind me saying..... you should definitely put some ink on these guys, a good ol' wash will bring out the details. you could go for a mix of green and blue wash, and maybe some chestnut ink on the yellow details (try watering down the ink quite a lot and go for a few layers), i'll post some pics of my guys and you'll see what i mean.

Don't own any inks nor know where to get any so that's a dud. Washes I use in places but not all over the place, just a general tendency not to.

I do yes but they don't see any as far as I know. I don't recall seeing any on the shelves. Thanks about the dread ;)

Ask one of the staff for ink washes, there important in the fact that they have a sortta light gloss effect on them which really helps define shadows and depth, it will make your guys look pro, guaranteed.

I'll look into it. Anyways ty for looking

I beleive he might be referring to the Washes that you already have. I could be mistaken.

Uh, anyway, nicely painted Chief Librarian. Your painting is clean and crisp on this guy. And I like the idea of a Chief Librarian on a bike. I can see two small parts where the ink wash is either a little thick or looks like it has escaped. On his left hand side of his hood there is a little spot and on the front trip of the handle bars guard thing there is a little bit. Other then that nicely neat job.

Dunno he mentioned Chesnut Ink which I've heard of being mentioned but never seen it on sale.

THanks on the librarian, and I've just spotted the errors on the pics so ta for that, I'll patch him up.

EDIT:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads...5136_300087.jpg

heres a pic of a chaos dred i done, i need to finish the paint job tho

Not bad for a dread though the legs still like spindly and rigid as wood. Paint job is nice.

Ah, I see now. Games Workshop used to make a set of inks. They discontinued the line after they released the current washes series. The washes are, frankly, light years ahead of the inks. Although the inks were a much thicker pigment they were also smelly and left a shiny finish that would require you to mat varnish the model to remove. You might still be able to pick them up at some GW that haven't fully sold out yet but I dont think there would be many and its probably not worth the effort, honestly. If you want the darker level of pigment a couple of layers with the new washes has the same effect and probably ends up looking better.

Yeah pretty much how I go about it if i want a good parchment colour for the seals; white down with gryphonne sepia a few times (thick). The washes are quite nice to use so it's all good :)
