but yeah chaos doesn't have rules for those as we aren't allowed them

yeah you are, FW do the rules for the dreadclaw, IA update 2006 has them in, dunno if there anywhere else, yeah they need permission, but thats not hard to get as long as you play good players (even though rare)

So if you use a dreadclaw you could deepstrike a Chaos dreadnought? ;)

with opponent permission yes, but be aware they cost I think about twice as much as marine pods pts wise, cash wise you can just convert a plastic one, they do the same thing practically anyway

however surface to Orbit is not covered in the rules, so no DS'ing, killing stuff, taking off then DS'ing again ;), and of course ship to ship isn't covered in these 40k rules

True.

Technically they have the "Flyer" and "Orbital Lander" rules instead of current drop-pod rules. (As of C:SM)

Though we did do a "house rules" version of Assault boats.

We did a massive BFG game where the boarding actions were actually played. Each Assault boat squadron that made it counted as three full assault boats of their troop type (In our case, 3 Dreadclaws for a total of 20 Chaos Marines and 1 Dreadnought and 3 Shark Assault boats with 60 Guardsmen and Three Sentinels respectively.) The "defenders" would be five times the attacking version (100 CSM and 5 Dreads/300 Guardsmen and 15 Sentinels respectively) You would actually have to destroy a "critical target" to get the critical.

Big Battle, took a total of a week to finish. (It was a 2'500 point BFG game) Over the course of the game something like 30'000+ points of standard 40k boarding actions.
