My Flesh Tearers

Here's a peek at the Flesh Tearers I've been working on. They are close to being finished, just need to add company and squad markings, and base them. I am really not sure how I want to base them, so any ideas would be appreciated. I am thinking either an ash waste to keep them dark, or a light brown with grass to provide contrast.

This is the vet sarge I've been working on for this squad. He just has his base coats on sloppily. He is equipped with a flesh tearer that will normally be used as a counts as power fist. Its not quite finished yet. :(

This is a taste of the Death Company I've put together. Tried to make them look as armed for close combat as possible without being ridiculous. Used modified khorne axes and left shoulder pads.

And a semi-gaming distance pic featuring my nasty carpet and a few termis.

C&C welcome. I'm especially looking for advice on basing. Thanks!

I like the tiny hints that these marines are not so friendly and civilised* as other loyalists. Great job on the death company, you have managed to model more menace into them than even your other assault marines, yet without going mental with blades or vampire cliches or whatever. I applaud your restraint.

*Friendly and civilised being very much relative terms.

I like them. The heavy blacklining and strong highlighting will look good on the battlefield. (As that last picture shows.) As for the bases, I would avoid ash wastes. It will blend to much with the models and make them look more dull IMHO. A more contrasting base would make them come to life more. Light brown with grass as you suggested might work.

Those look very good.

I think at table top level the heavy highlighting will make the marines stand out and look very good. I say stay with this technique throughout your army. I feel that some people don't understand what type of scale your painting for and may give you advise to paint to a different view that your looking for if you don't say what view (upclose/tabletop) your going for.

Keep up the good work. The posing of the models is also good.

That's the general plan. I am just not sure how to keep the style I've been using with my grey dreads and death company. I could go grey fade to black which might stand out quite a bit more. Or I could fade up to a nearly white. I think I just need to do one of each at some point. I don't know. If anyone has any input it might save me some time.

I'll be in a country where GW doesn't exist for the next 4 months, so I'll have some time to consider it I suppose.
