Returning to the game

A few years ago I started a Sisters-based army. Then real life - in the form of a son - got in the way, so they got put up on a shelf. I'd like to restart them.

I have three boxes of Sisters - 30 in total - plus a couple of character models like standard bearers.

My prior army was Guard, so I can bulk out their ranks with expendable Guardsmen if necessary - but I'd prefer to keep an all Sisters army.

That said, I really like the models for Grey Knight Terminators, and would like to add a few of them to my army, if only as an excuse to paint them.

Anyone have any hints, tops, or ideas? Suggestions? Maybe even a list to work towards?

Welcome back. I myself recently returned to the game (right when 5th ed came out). I run a pure Sisters army, and can offer a few suggestions.

Seraphim - I would pick up at least 1 box, probably 2 so you can have 2 w/ Hand flamers and 6 with Bolt Pistols.

Rhinos - At least 2

Exorcists - at least 1, I run no less than 2 in any army 1500 pts or higher.

Flamer Sisters (both regular and Heavy) - Being able to stack those templates + Divine Guidance = a wonderful purging of the enemy ranks.

Couple of heavy bolters, a Cannoness and a living saint will do a great job getting you on the table with 1500 points.

Welcome back to the inquisition. Including GKT in your list should be easy, just decide how many points you want to spend between 61 and about 1000.

Then decide which slot your going to stick them in, either HQ or elites (HQ allows a variety of psychic powers).

The 290 point squad is a Brother captain with psycannon, 1 GK with incinerator, 1 with thunder hammer and 2 other GK. This gives a good variety of modeling options as well as an effective in game unit.

Sounds reasonable.

Would it be reasonable to hold off on these and use the GK Terminators instead?

If that's just a dumb idea, let me know...

Flamers, Cannoness, Living Saint - check; I'll pick up those.

Not really familiar with GK Termies to give an honest answer. I do know that you can't ally in any Heavy Support, so if you have a base Sisters army with GK allies, you can take both (assuming they are elites like SM Termies, and if you have the points).

What I would do with your question about termies or exorcist would be, if you want more competative list, take the exorcist. If you want cooler, go GKT.

Also you can do what I do, get a rhino, and convert it to an exorcist, after all, "each machine is a individual work of art" (Codex:Witch Hunters pg 36) So me personally is in the long run get the GW exorcist model eventually, cause its cool, and then make atleast two more (or 10 like I am currently working on... making all my rhinos able to have pieces added on to use them as an exorcist :) ) so if you want you could field three as HS (or 10 in apoc games :) )

Also if you want more Sisters of Battle, get some Dominions! I love em, but I do think the seraphem need to be in the list along with the dominions, as they complement each other quite well :)

When you said Sisters only, I was thinking you were meaning Sisters of Battle (faithful units) only.

I run a witch hunter army, full of arbites, acro-flagellents (right now they are ghouls on square bases proxied until I convert some), inquisitors, Sisters Repentia, Death Cult Assassins, Penitent Engines, the works.

I love the Penitent Engines, they are amazing, in groups of 2-3 (you should take three though) They will be shot at like no other, but If they get into Close Combat, wow there will benothing left of the squad.

Sisters Repentia, I have run 19 of these with mistress :P very awesome, very deadly, you will lose probably ten of them before they actually attack though (when playing Space Marines, Tau, Other Witch Hunters, or Necron) Once they get into battle, wow they enemy is sad  I plan on finishing converting the 19 repentia that I have made using daemonette bodies within a month. After that I plan on picking up a few more bodies for the repentia (ebay man, ebay I buy daemonette bodies) and then picking up some more bases from my local club, then converting more so that i had the possibilty of running 57 sister repentia and 3 mistress Just for giggles, and they were really fun to convert. (also I wanna see my oppenents face when they laugh at my repentia)

Acros I have only used them in one game, they did well though they died after they killed one squad (got shot up) but the trick is knowing when to use stims.

Penitent Engines, every single game I have played with my witch hunters, I have use penitent engines. they are awesome. I would personally buy 1 or two penitent engines (so you can use both penitents to add variety) then I would start buying sentinels off of ebay and then use bits from defilers or any other vehicle (also bought on ebay) and then a lot of plasticard and green stuff. I am also real big on conversions So I will always take converting over buying.

Arbites/IST - Get these, no more questions, just get em. They rock. Or convert em :P use a mix of space marine bits and the new space marine scout bits and if you really wanna go at it, use some imperial guard bits too. Just have fun. Also since they look awesome you may wanna pick up the old arbiter necromunda figs, or even the new 2004 or 2005 versions :)

Arbites are just awesome, thats all you gotta say, (though sisters of battle are better sadly I too must say this, but run a priestw/ evicerator with 10 arbites with 2 flamers :) They work nicely.

Zealots - If you never use these, atleast convert em. They actually are really good. I run 1 priest w/ evicerator, 1 demogoug (the leader unit guy)w/ evicerator, 4 Fanatics w/ evicerator, and 15 zealots. If i am facing a horde army, I will run these with exterminators (little one time use flame throwers), but this will quickly make the points go up, FAST! But just watch as you have a mass swarm of gaunts or orks about to assault you and all of a sudden flame templates come out (20 flame templates... he he he he... he he...) The enemy squad IS GONE... no questions asked.

Inquisitors - Weather you take them as elite or HQ, they rock (judgment throne :) )Just gifure out how you want them to be played, and stick to it.

Living Saint - I would buy two living saints, fix pegasus wings on em, and Pow! you have 2 jumpy cannoness :) The living saint is great, but I think jumpy cannoness are better :)
