Pre-heresy Luna Wolves take 2

I absolutely love this conversion, painting, modelling, everything,

 

except for one thing I noticed, bit of a pet peeve for me.

during the heresy, the clip for boltguns was at the end of the gun, one gripped it before the clip, not after.

a quick question:

how does the Area Look where the Gunner is standing?

I stole the idea from Elijah7’s Legion of the Damned; check out the May 3rd ’08 entry. So feel free to steal from him also. ;)

 

As per the gunner’s position, the top cover, razorback bit, where the gun turret mounts is just large enough to host a 25mm base as well. So the gunner is mounted on a regular base; thus easy to swap out or reuse as a tac/dev marine, etc.

 

I’ll take more pics once that marine is painted up.

I think the most interesting part of the comments on this army come from individual's perception of what makes for a, “pre-heresy” army. When doing the research I found very little consistency so I chose a single source to base these models:

 

These LW’s were based on the cover art on False Gods on which you will notice the standard pattern for the mag-to-grip placement. So they all get plain white cases but otherwise, they hold to the standard look and feel.

ah! I see. that certainly makes sense. I know I've seen Luna Wolves with old style guns before on the GW site, perhaps there were multiple patterns of Bolters being used during the great crusade.

It’s the final week of the Librarium challenge and here’s my status.

 

The final model I needed assembled is the Trogaddon conversion and here he is thus far:

He still needs a helmet crest & an iron halo but I’d rather get some paint on him before adding those parts.

There is a 'U' on Tarik's shoulder! Just kidding, the conversion is right on for a Pre-Heresy Captain of any Legion, and part of the reason I love the Sicarius model so much.

Thanks as always. You’ll get more looks at the Torgaddon model here shortly. The Librarium Challenge only has 6 days left.

 

As far as the Ultra references, the big “U” on the codpiece has been covered over by a wolf’s head, stripped from a Space Wolf’s pelt. And, the little U’s on the leather strips were filled in with modeling putty and then primed over. They just look like metal caps at the end of each strip.

 

As far as the 4-barreled storm bolter, it’s just 2 sets of stacked storm bolter barrels (thank you Black Reach for cheap plastic terminator bits).

 

But as stated, more on this guy in the very near future. Cheers, -OMG

OMG...always loved yer work man...really like your razor conversion as well as the nice white...ive struggled to come up with a good consistent white that is not a bone color.

just started another army using the chaos warrior and termi TS ideas...like the remarks about what constitutes a preheresy flavor to an army:)...perceptions of (fantasy) reality :D

should be getting my bits from all over creation by the end of next week and am excited to get started....

... will look forward to watching your work come along!!

Tarik's looking good. Now is it just me or does his left arm (the one with the Power Fist) look slightly too long?

Yeah, I have to give you that. The Sicarius models assumes a smaller hand then a PF, despite the fact that it has a similar, helmet-in-hand pose as one option for that arm. I tried to hack the wrist back so the fist would be pulled back toward his torso but the angel was tough and I didn’t want to carve up the rest of the model trying to remove the wrist. Likewise, it was too tight a spot for a file.

 

So, I compromised and let it stand w/o too much alteration. I hope it’s permissibly disproportioned.

Death Guard were white and green. When they were the Sons of Horus they were a green color. Horus was going crazy.

 

The marines look awesome. Torgaddon seems to be dishing out four barrels of hot death awesome conversion. They all look good.

The comments about the change in paint scheme are all correct. While they were the Luna Wolves the color was described as white and sometime pearl. When the legion was renamed, they adopted the sea green color (you know Chaos was behind that move) and Horus’ eye as the Legion’s badge, (replacing the moon & wolf head logo).

 

Since this army is ¼ of a 4-man team; two of us are painting up Luna Wolves while the other 2 are painting their armies as Sons of Horus showing the transition of one to another. So Loken & Torgaddon who stayed loyal to the Emperor on the LW’s side while Abaddon & Aximand are SoH.

 

I’ll have pictures of the gathered forces here in the next few weeks for those who are interested.

 

Torgaddon seems to be dishing out four barrels of hot death :D awesome conversion. They all look good.

I’m using Pedro’s rules for Torgaddon so 4 barrels seemed appropriate for Dorn’s Arrow, being Assault 4.
