Naming a Titan....

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm going to be getting a couple titans soon and I was wondering what methods are there for naming them. Are they named after events, special heroes, locations of battles...

Any help would be appreciated...

BTW, they are Warlords if that makes a difference

Cheers

I name mine using gods of war, death, destruction, etc. For example:

Legio Erratus - Erra: an Akkadian plague god

Letum Lokis - Loki: Norse Giant God; Letum: Death, Ruin, Annihilation

Mortis Arestes - Ares: Greek God of War; Mortis: Deadly, Death bringing

Hadur Nex - Hadur: Hungarian God of War; Nex: Violent death, Slaughter

Mortis Canis - Deadly Dog (One of the Bulldog Titan Designs I did fluff on)

Hope that helps. I don't know if there is really anything that makes a Titan name but that is what I came up with. They all sound good and I think the names fit well within the 40k universe. That and they all have meaning...something at least you will know...

Some really cool latin phrases usually work well:

ad victoriem - to victory

honoris causea - for the sake of honour

ira deorum - wrath of the gods

nulli secundus - second to none

semper paratus - always prepared

semper vigilans - always vigilant

Not particularly great, just a couple I thought of as examples.

find a cool latin translator online should help a bit mine are this, they are legio astorum

warhonds: vulpus tripudium which meanls joyful fox

Morbius sire hound lord.

warhound names should have somthing hunterish or houndlike in theme

my reaver and astorum battle group commander,

Aspicio Astrum, beholden the warp runner

'High Gothic' ( Latin or Latin-esque) phrases are always good for this sort of thing.

When naming them, keep in mind that to the Mechanicus Titans are walking embodiments of the Omnisire, none more so than the Warlords (and Imperators, but that goes without)

For english names, I'd suggest taking a look at the names that the Royal Navy uses for their ships: Daring, Audacious, Astute, etc.

For latin, go pester a Catholic priest and ask him for the Latin versions of the Psalms or Lamentations. Lamentations is better, since the writer (Daniel?) is calling out to God to strike down his enemies.
