Writing a short story about Wolf Scouts

Hail Brothers,

I have long thought of writing something about the lone wolfs. The unsung heroes of our chapter. The Wolf Scouts. Yet for this I would like to see what has been written about them in the official fluff. Things that GW has published which might tell us something about the Wolf Scouts.

I am because of this asking for your help, I have not been playing 40K more than since 3rd edition, and space wolfs for more than just before the release of 5th. I do not know what fluff there is that goes back longer in our history. Please help me.

Best Regards

I'm sure anything restricting on the fluff, you're already aware of. Like how they aren't new recruits, like other chapters. Other than that, they're lone wolves who have been known to operate behind enemy lines undetected for as long as years at a time.

There isn't a whole lot written about Wolf Scouts, they make a handfull of small appearances in the prologue and epilogue of some of the Space Wolf books but hardly very informative. Basically some points to note are as follows:

1. Wolf Scouts are not neophytes, instead they are all Veterans of many campaigns.

2. Wolf Scouts are all part of the Great Wolf's Great Company and are assigned to missions and warzones by the order of Grimnar alone.

3. Wolf Scouts have been shown to wear cut down Power Armor rather than actual carapace armor.

But that's pretty much it.

Then I'll have some information. Do I need to know something more? They operate alone and in packs, correct? So I could have the entire pack in a warzone, yet they would have split up for some time before the main army comes to the battle.

they work in packs and can operate alone. The Fluff says SW scouts tend to be loners who suffer from the "lone Wolf syndrome" (my definition) they prefer being amongst like minded company and are therfore banded together. SW generally tend to be very social, SW scouts not so much. The SW scouts have a battle leader or wolf gaurd who wears power armour.

A little late but I just located my copy of the Short Story Anthology Bringers of Death. Lo and behold the first short story in it, titled Even Unto Death, opens with "The Wolf Scouts flew like spectres down the dark, tangled paths..."

I haven't re-read the story yet but if you can get ahold of the Anthology you may want too. It also has one of the Ciaphis Cain short stories as well.

@Vash113

Thanks for the tip!

I found the book on Amazon, and read the comments. It's seems like the one who wrote the Space Wolf scout story didn't have all the knowledge about our proud brothers. Yet most things are good. But I do not know.

@WG Vrox

Thanks to you as well. I checked Amazon and found it. Is it also in the Omnibus? I would like to buy that over just one book.

All the comments praise it.

I also checked the 2nd edition Codex. (Yes, I managed to buy one in nearly mint condition for under six USD. :) ) In which Wolf Scouts are just Space Marine Scouts. I think I will need to get some books.

I guess I should not have said alot of activity, compared to the other books it is, however hardly any fluff at all, just a mention or two of them doing this or that so as to report information back to Ragnar. The books are a great read so buy them for that, but if you are only after the scout info I can copy over the few areas in the book pretty quickly if you want only that.

WG Vrox

I will probably get the Omnibus if the book is in it. Yet if you could PM me short snippets so that I could understand how they portray them I would be grateful.

Space Wolf, Ragnar's Claw and Grey Hunter are the books in the Omnibus. Wolfblade, Sons of Fenris and Wolf's Honour are the second three books in the series and not yet in an Omnibus.
