stormtroopers question

Both the Kasrkin and the older stormies used in some of the pics in the Inquisition codices are in fact metal. But they're totally sweet models anyway. If you are totally opposed to using them, I guess you could buy plastic Cadians and use either bits or green stuff to make their armor look heavier. Then attach some cables to convert their flashlightslasguns into hellguns and you'd be good.
the only reason i don't like metal is the flake-able paint, and the arms are always hard to glue

Well, painting issues aside, the Kasrkin don't have seperate arms as far as I remember (put mine together a long time ago). The only parts on them that require gluing are the backpacks. Don't know if that would change your mind on them or not. The older ones I mentioned are actually back on the GW website, under the 'troops' portion of the DH army section, and they're all one-piece, backpacks and all.

Also, if I was going to go plastic, I might consider mixing a box of plastic Cadians with a box of something from the WFB line - there used to be some neat GW studio conversions using the Brettonian men-at-arms with a mix of modern kit and weapons. Looked really nice, with a kind of WWI English trooper look (from the brimmed helmets), and I'll bet you could do something similar if you were willing to do the conversion work!

edited: I initially said you could find the last-generation stormies on both DH and WH army sections of the GW site, but it looks like they're just under the DH section now.

all right, thank you for telling me that the karskrins are 2 piece, that doesn't seem too bad then maybe if i get some varnish, for now ill just pick up two squads of cadians, but when i get the money and time ill get 4 squads of the karskrins.
Hmm, i've never heard of paint flaking off of metal models after they've been properly cleaned. You do wash all of your metal models with a little bit of soap and scrub them with a tooth brush before you paint them right? This gets rid of a little bit of powder that is used to remove the models from their molds. Once they've been cleaned of this powder paint shouldn't flake off them at all.
yes i do wash all of them, but some of mine flake, mainly my dante and lemartes

Do you base coat your minis by hand or do you use a spray on primer?

Spraying on your base coat, then sealing the finished peice with a few coats of varnish should prevent chipping.

Oh yea, it's been confirmed that we'll see Plastic Stormtroopers with the release of Codex: Imperial Guard. BoLS and other sources say the plastic stormtroopers should be among the first releases, along with a plastic Valkyrie. This should be first week or so of May. You may want to lay off buying any Stormtroopers until then.
