vindicare and shooting into close combat

i know in the FAQ the vindicare can now shoot into CC - yes it's as cool as that.

but that opened up a new can of worms tonight.

so during a match i ended up with one squad being tied down in CC with a ripper squad with a single wound left. with about 30 gargoyles breathing down their necks ready to jump in next round. needless to say i REALLY wanted to be able to use the 2 flamers in that squad.

so i spun my vindicare and took out the lone wounded ripper keeping those storm troopers and 2 flamers tied up.

now the question is... does the squad that started the turn in close combat now get a chance to shoot since the lone enemy tying them up is now removed from play. they're not moving and flamers are assault weapons after all...

Well, they're no longer in close combat, so I'd say yes!

That made me think of a question of my own now, does that Stormtrooper squad get a Consolidation move as the ripper dies to shooting?

no because consolidation is only at the end of an assault phase, correct me if im wrong

That is correct... there are only 3 times at which movement may occur... during the movement phase (duh), this covers deep striking and outflanking aswell. During the shooting pahse (run forest run!) and lastly in the assault phase, firstly to charge into combat, and again to perform consolidation moves.

So it doesn't matter when in the assault phase the unit performs a consolidation move, the unit in the above example cannot perform one as they are not in the assault phase and because they did not win combat.

I would say they can shoot, but I'm not too familiar with the rules governing shooting (stupid 5th ed., only just finished memorising 4th ed. ).

In terms of fluff, certainly. Basically the troopers go to hit the ripper, but before they get the chance it gets shot dead. Being highly trained soldiers they aren't just going to stand there going "Duh?". They will start looking for new enemies and shoot them if they are in range. Unless you want to argue that they stopped and broke squad cohesion as one IST is sent back as an emissary to high-five the Vindicare. ;)
