The Puritans - DA Successor - WIP pic heavy!

Recommended Posts

Ok, so while I gear up to try and face the prospect of painting over 100 Marines black, I thought I'd add a couple of the conversions I've recently been working on.

First up is the all important Master of the Death Wing, this model "counts as" Belial and features Storm Bolter and Sword of Secrets. He's based on the Marneus Calgar model, with icons and tabard removed. I tried to sculpt a new tabard from GS, but the GS gods weren't with me that day. It just wouldn't hold the folds and after a lot of shouting and swearing, I decided to push mold a new tabard from one of the Space Marine veterans. The unsightly joins have been hidden by DA accessories. I've also created a 2nd version fielding Lightning Claws.

Next up is the Master of the Raven Wing on "jet bike", this will count as "Sammael". I decided to move away from the jetbike, as it is recorded that Sammael fields one of the only remaining jetbikes from before the Heresy. This was my first attempt at kit-bashing and I hope you guys think it's worthy.

Some of you might guess what the base model is, but for those that don't, it is a Halo 3 Brute Chopper, chopped in two, with a Space Marine bike pinned to the front half. Some plasti-card helps to hide some of the joins. The banner was made by heating a piece of plasti-card with my girlfriends hair dryer and then wrapping it round a pen before it cooled. The extra twirls on the tips was achieved by heating the plastic almost to melting point and just as it started to wither, removing it from the heat

From a few different angles:

And some addtional Power Armour goodness - I've made 2 combat squads of Veteran Marines, 1 specialising in CC, can count as Vanguard, the other specialising in Ranged warfare can count as Sternguard.

I've made a start on painting my Librarians, so hopefully I'll be able to post those up soon!

Any C&C is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Thanks guys for the kind comments.

@ gil galad - what is it about the crouching guy that you find strange? What changes could I make to it, to not make it look strange?

Is it perhaps the litany scroll hanging off the right shoulder??

The brute chopper ravenwing guy is very nice as well as the posing on your other models. I hardly recognize the calagar model under the belial conversion so great job on that as well. The flamer guy looks fine to me, he might look wierd because his scope sort of obscures his head and blends in with it.

The only thing i'm really confused on is that your fielding sternguard and vanguard in a DA successor chapter. Which book are you using C: DA or C: SM?

Thanks for the compliments!

As for the Sternguard/Vanguard models, the initial intention was to be able to use both codecies, depending on what mood I was in. If I want to use C:DA, I can field the Sterns as a Company Veteran Squad, or the Vans as Assault Marines without Jump Packs and add a Razorback or 2 into the mix. This gives me a cetain amount of flexibility in what troops I want to field. The other half of the Van Squad/Assault squad has been assembled from the Veteran Sgts blister packs.

As far as slapping some paint on a mini goes, I'm currently working my way through 5 Chaplains, 3 Librarians and 3 Apothecaries. I'll take some WIP pics and post them either later tonight or tomorrow. I'm also waiting for the weather to break here in Cardiff, it's either been too cold or too wet to get some serious spraying done and my house doesn't have a garage or shed B)

Just had an idea for a pose for your Ravenwing master.

You could pose it front "wheel" first on a round base, with the back pointing upwards a bit, shooting or pointing at a nearby enemy.

It's a bad sketch but I hope you get the idea. Just a thought, though

@ Cathar the great - I did toy with the idea of not having a back wheel at all, thought it might look cool keeping to the original design concept of the Brute Chopper, however, I liked the idea of the Master riding this massive souped up chopper, but a backwards chopper, with the small wheel at the rear. Realistically, if this design were to function, the front end would be so heavy it wouldn't move so much as flip the back over on it's end, squishing the rider! Hehe.

As for pose, I think I'll mount him on a Chariot base, with the main chassis slung to the right. If I use the GW tut on Biker bases as inspiration, it might give the illusion of movement?? Who knows!

I can't remember who it was that had the metal gun blasts/firing rocket hamsters attached to their mini's, but I think this is one model that would rock with some gun blasts shooting out of those Assault Cannons!

Apologies for double post!!

As mentioned earlier, here is a collection of pics from the models I'm currently working on:

C&C are most welcome - as you can see they're in various states of WIP, I'm trying to do each robe layer at a time over all the models that require it - I realise there's quite a lot of touching up to do and lots of fine details to put in!!
