Khan's Biker Troops

Can an attack bike count as 1 (or even 2 - but I doubt that) of the 5 riders needed to make a bike squad troops with Khan (or any other bike Captain)?

If you are combat squading a FULL bike unit they actually recommend splitting it 5 bikes/ 3 bikes+ Attack bike

 

So by that reasoning i suppose you can. However - the wording says needs to be 5 MODELS so i guess it could count as 1 model on those grounds

It counts as 1 model for all purposes except for the purpose of combat squading.

When building the squad an attack bike will count as 1 model. You would thus need the sergeant, 2 basic bikers an additional biker and the attack bike to count as a troops choice for the captain

Actually if we consider the name of it, the ATTACK BIKE, then it doesnt count towards the 5 space marine BIKERS needed to be a troops choice...

It was discussed with the scout bikers and they were rejected also...

 

I guess using RAW you need 5 bikers first!!

If you take 8 bikes with an attack bike it counts as a troops choice, but what if you then combat squad it. You would have:

5 bikers and

3 bikers with an attack bike (technically not 5), do they still count as troops, or once combat squaded they no longer have this rule??

As to the Mounted Assault rule: it states Space Marine Bike squads of at least five models. As an attack bike as an element of a bike squad I see no reason why it can't be part of the first five (counting as one model obviously). If that Bike Squad is taken at full strength then combat squadding it is an option at deployment with each combat-squadded part counting as a seperate Troops unit.

Ah but your assuming of course the rule covers attack bikes to mean bikes.....i ask this, if scout bikers arent covered by this rule then how comes attack bikes are.

Personally i see it that all bikes are covered under this rule, but alot of people disagree and point to RAW, so im just playing devils advocate...

Yep - but this only applies if the bike squad is combat squadded.

If you were to take a bike squad of the basic 3 bikes and an attack buike this would only be 4 models - the attack bike is only 1 model as it's not combat squadded (is this a real term?), so no cheap squads to pack in the attack bikes there I'm afraid.

Well unless I'm reading it wrong, you buy your basic three-man bike squad, then add another bike (as they can be bought individually), then add an attack bike. Making the required 5-model bike squad.

 

When at full size and combat squadded, each 'half' becomes a 5-model bike squad by virtue of the attack bike being worth two models in that situation.

yeah no qualms with that

 

It was more to say that you couldn't constitute as 2 models for a bike squad by using the 2 model rule from splitting it into combat squads
