winterdyne
My current WIP: http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/da_dreadnoughtWIP1.jpg A bucket load of highlighting to do tomorrow... :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158077-wip-da-dreadnought/ Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
Anything that is DA is automatically awesome. This paint scheme just makes it so much cooler. In the top left picture, it looks like he only has half of a tan shin, weird. Can't wait to see the standard on this thing. Brother SRM
Very nice. I like the checkers. You going to do anything with the flagpole? That thing is just begging for a custom banner! Also: Post 1111. I feel lucky today. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158077-wip-da-dreadnought/#findComment-1850265 Share on other sites
winterdyne
It's the old metal dreadnought, so the legs are kinda static. Yeah, there'll be a custom banner, which I'll think about once the main paintwork's done. Alys Dwr
I love the metal DA dread. I've been considering snipping the banner off of a metal deathwing termi sarge to put on my dread and mimic this look. I like the paintjob so far however the bone is a bit dark for my liking as is. How far will you be highlighting it? Al Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158077-wip-da-dreadnought/#findComment-1850436 Share on other sites
winterdyne
Up to off-white. I might leave the shin plate darker and do 4th Co. heraldry on it instead. Shiodome
nice looking dread B) imo the red on the missile arm (checks and logo) is a bit to pastel, a few careful red glazes would give it some vibrancy if you wanted. winterdyne
More progress. Toned down the green with a DA green glaze. Lenses done, and the red's been tweaked as suggested, although in these pics it looks the bloody same. :-/ http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/da_dreadnought_WIP4.jpg http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/da_dreadnought_WIP5.jpg http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/da_dreadnought_WIP6.jpg Still a way to go... Shiodome
in the bottom picture the reds look consitant over the whole model, so it's likely just a photography issue and nothing to worry about. :whistling: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158077-wip-da-dreadnought/#findComment-1860839 Share on other sites

Alys Dwr
You are realy doing that fine old model justice! I notice you've painted the hip region oposite to how i do, looks nice. And your lenses are very nice, hope i can do something similar. winterdyne
And more done... Don't think I'll add any more chips or weathering other than a few oil streaks here and there: http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/da_dreadnoughtWIP11_800.jpg http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/da_dreadnoughtWIP12.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158077-wip-da-dreadnought/#findComment-1877936 Share on other sites
SpeakerfortheDead
That is fantastic! What is the recipe for the weathering? Just a dark brown then some boltgun metal? winterdyne
Pretty much - scorched brown blobs, brightened with some dark flesh, then a dab of vallejo natural steel in the middle. They'll get toned down with a thin brown glaze (so will be a bit duller). Edges of those chips will all be highlighted the same as the edges on the base colours - snot green/white on the green and bone/white on the bone.
