Mosk
Immolators, they sorta have three basic builds, TL flamers, TL Heavy Bolters, and TL Multi Meltas. How would you match up the following armies (I am really generalizing here) with the following immolators, (you can use multiple types of immolators builds for each army) Immolator builds: a.) flamers b.) heavy bolters c.) Multi Meltas Armies: 1.) Chaos Daemons 2.) Chaos Space Marines 3.) Daemon Hunters w/ not just Grey Knights (like ISTs as main troop choice) 4.) Grey Knight only force 5.) Dark Eldar 6.) Eldar w/ harloquins 7.) Eldar Saim Hann style (jet bikes, lots of jet bikes) 8.) Standard Eldar type of army 9.) Imperial Gaurd infantry heavy 10.) Imperial Gaurd Tank Heavy 11.) Necron Monolith Spam army 12.) Not so cheezy Necron army 13.) Ork foot slogging army 14.) Ork army where almost every boy is in a trukk 15.) Double ork boss on warbike army 16.) Space Marine Army 17.) Tau Empire 18.) Kroot Merc army (no tau) 19.) Nidzilla armies 20.) Gaunt Heavy Tyranid 21.) Somewhat ballanced Tyranid 22.) Witch Hunters 23.) Sisters of Battle Foot sloggers 24.) Sisters of Battle Mechanized Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158089-immolators/ Share on other sites
Cath
TL heavy flamers for 1-24. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158089-immolators/#findComment-1850238 Share on other sites
ObsidianIchor
Speaking as a Marine player who regularly plays against Witch Hunters, I agree with Cath. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158089-immolators/#findComment-1850334 Share on other sites
Melissia
It really is the best one. The heavy bolter and multimelta upgrades are ovepriced for the job. A heavy bolter immolator with blessed ammo can be nice though. Kettu
My tank hunting Dominions have twin-linked multi-meltas with tank or MC heavy armies and my Retubution squad often uses holy ammo heavy bolters but otherwise, always the flamers. Adoremus
Flamers! I have used the TL multimeltas occasionally but with the Immolator being so weakly armored, I rarely get into 12" of any heavy tank I want to attack and you can't go 12" and fire as with the flamers. jeffersonian000
I agree that the TL Heavy Flamer is the best choice, due the ability the move 12" and still shoot. I also like the TL Heavy Bolter with Blessed ammo, as it gives you a 36" range that ignores cover. I haven't found a build I like for the TL Multi-Melta; it costs the same as the HB+BA, yet has a shorter range and the same move 12" or shoot problem the non-flamer versions have. In a City game, I'd take the HB+BA version as a HB Celestian transport for a fire support base, or I'd drop the BA and use it with a HB Retributer squad to add a 5th HB the group. I can see the MM version as a light/fast tank destroyer, but its only really good for a single ambush, and really only useful against the ignorant. Personally, I think the short range of the flamer template is a handicap, yet I will still spam the hell out of it if I’m going to field it at all. General_Drazz
I have found one really good use for an Immolator with TL MM.....Space Marines. Every SM player I have played has used a Dread deployed in a drop pod (Sometimes 2) to get at my Exorcists. By keeping an Immolator back there positioned properly, it makes the player have to choose how he wishes to sacrifice his Dread (and even more so, 2 KP in an Annihalation mission). Marvin D Martian
Mosk, I kinda like your standard setup by unit type questions. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158089-immolators/#findComment-1852304 Share on other sites
