The field: The opponent set up terrain, and he put alot of it on the table, maybe a little to much but I didn't much mind. Woods on the left side, lots of random cratters and difficult terrain. Few broken pillars scattered and shoulder height walls. I had a woods in my deployment area. The terrain was good but only allowed for 2 paths for my rhino to take to his tank... That tank needed to die... Deployment: (Note: we used a 4 x 4 table for this smaller game and reduced the distance from middle to 8 inches instead of 12) Deployment was interesting and really made the game, he deployed his tank in the back corner, its firepower had a clear shot to most of my side except for a decent sized pillar in the middle that blocked view. His Plague marines decided upon the hard left side of his side of the table, by the forest. And starting in a cratter at the edge his allowed area closest to the middle. His Daemon prince planted nearby. He held his terminators for deep strike. On my turn I decided to hold my terminators as well. I deployed defensively, putting my inquisitors fire-team into the forest in the back corner on my side, they held a commanding view that would punish my opponents forces the entire game. I deployed a unit of storm troopers with plasma guns in terrain middle of the table near my table edge, their chimera was near by providing cover for a unit of grey knights that started right behind it. The unit with grenade launchers deployed near the middle 8 inch limit behind a wall and the unit in a rhino had its engines reeving to take off towards the tank along the right side of the table. Hopefully with 24 inches of move it could get close enough to drop the melta's in range and annihilate the tank. The Fight: Brotherhood, Open Fire! Destroy these Weaklings! Turn One: Chaos: Prince Moves behind a pillar on the right, instead of flying into my deployment behind another pillar. I was suprised by the move, as he could have been into my lines turn 1 tearing up my troopers. This choice would lead to his princes' death. The Plague Marines move up trying to get through the dense cover, he rolls a 6 and moves into cover in the middle, left side plague marines moving around the trees, they run 4. His marines are pretty spread out on the left but his right side marines are not, perfect for a plasma cannon. His tank moves into position. Plague marines near the center open fire, but are outside of range. His tank opens up dropping 3 storm troopers between its auto cannon and heavy bolter fire. They stand strong... An inquisitor is watching them with lots of heavy weapons right behind them after all. Daemonhunters: I move my chimera a little forward allowing my knights to move forward past them. They get cover behind the chimera and the wall the grenade launcher storm troopers are behind as well. The Rhino carrying the melta squad churns forward flying 12 inches across the table to my opponents side and towards the center line, it faces the plague marines with plasma guns in the middle and pops smoke. My plasma gun troopers shift a little in their crater and fire some shots at the left side plague marines, the shots drop 1 plague marine from the melta squad. Knights open up with stormbolters on the plasma gun squad, but were ineffective. The grenade launcher squad fires its weapons at the plasma gun plague marine squad, but their shots were ineffective. The inquisitor squad takes aim, the plasma canon shot lands dead center, splashing hot plasma onto 5 marines and dropping 2 after cover saves. The heavy bolters and psycannon saw yet another drop. (Plague Marines: Plasma 8, Melta 10) Turn Two: Chaos: Terminators do not come in. Prince Flies forward behind the middle pillar in my deployment, he hands to the right a bit so on the left side of the pillar he is poking half out. His Left side marines move forward yet again, running 3 this time to get near the pillar the prince just moved from. His tank stays put. His middle Marines Move 6 through terrain into range for rapid firing, he spends some of this movement to spread them out. His tank opens fire, dropping 3 more storm trooper from my grenade squad (4 left) they break at the end of the shooting phase and run towards the woods a wooping 3 inches... an angry inquisitor points his gun at them. His middle plague marines open up on the left side armor of my rhino, but are ineffective, only shaking the crew thanks to smokes and extra armor. Daemonhunters: Terminators come in, they attempt to land on the left side of the field, in one of the open areas without nearby terrain and scatter a terrible 10 inches towards his marines. Seeing the look in the inquisitors eye, the running stormtroopers stop dead in their tracks and walk back to their positions the whole 3 inches they took. They land within an inch and are chosen to land in the crater by my plasma gun squad, they make their tests to land without any problem. Plasma gun squad makes a streak out of cover a whopping 6 inches toward the left, just into view of his daemon prince. The chimera moves forward to put the pillar in the middle between it and the melta gun squadapproaching. Gonna flamer it when it gets closer. The Knights move forward behind the rallying storm troopers and out in the open on the right. The Rhino charges towards his tank, turning to present its side hatch to tank, the storm troopers stormed out taking aim. 2 direct hits from melta guns sees the chaos tank turned into a smoking heap of wreckage (rolled a 1 and 4). The Plasma Gun troopers open up, blowing their entire wad of 6 plasma shots and rapid firing hellguns into the prince. 1 overheat and 1 dead trooper. Between all the shots 2 plasma shots and 1 hellgun actually cause wounds. The Brother Captain and his squad open fire with their stormbolters into the prince, their bolter shells tearing pieces out of his flesh as he falls to his death. The right side squad of storm troopers open fire but fail to kill anything, their krak grenades missing completely. Inquisitor squad opens fire smattering the plague marines, 1 drops to the plasma cannon after cover saves, and another to the bolter and psycannon fire. The knight squad opens but does not cause a single wound after saves. Chimera opens fire but does nothing to the plasma squad. (plasma 6/ melta 10) Turn Three: Chaos: Terminators come in on his side of the table on the right side near the crater in the middle and by his plasma squad. He moves his plasma marine squad through the crater to the edge. His melta squad moves forward. He opens fire with his melta squad all but annihilating my plasma storm trooper squad. They turn and run clear off the table. His plasma squad opens up on my knights, a single overheat kills one of his troopers, but the other tears through 2 knights. His Terminator squad opens fire, the plasma's causing another knight to drop, but the standard bolter fire doing nothing else (5 knights left). Daemon hunters: Terminators move through cover to the edge of the crater. Knights move close to the remnants of the plasma plague marine squad. Chimera shifts position to move and spray its heavy flamer next turn on the advancing melta squad. Melta storm trooper squad moves moves towards the chaos terminators but is out of range. Their guns point towards the tail end of the melta squad and open fire, 1 plague marine dies in the super heated blast. Rhino opens fire on the same target to no effect. Chimera Opens fire on the plasma plague marine squad to reduce their numbers dropping 1 more. Storm troopers fire into the squad dropping another. (4 left). Knights open fire, dropping yet another. Inquisitor squad opens up on the Chaos Terminator squad with chaos lord in it. The plasma cannon helps 2 of the 3 it hit into slag. Heavy bolter and Psycannon fire was ineffective. Grey Knight Terminators open up on the melta squad scything yet another plague marine down (8 left). Knights charge the remains of the plasma squad. In combat they tear into the squad, but the power weapon and attacks were not enough (reduced due to plague grenades) and a single plague marine and the champion are left standing. They cut down 2 more knights leaving 3 standing. Turn Four: Chaos: Terminators move and shoot at my inquisitorial storm trooper squad with grenade launchers, he fails to wound with his flamer, but his bolters drop 1. Only 1 drops thankfully due to cover. The Plague marine squad moves into range and rapid fires at my grey knight terminators, 3 fall. The Chaos Terminators charge and slice my grenade launcher storm troopers to ribbons and consolidate 3 inches toward the forest with my inquisitor. The knights mop up the rest of the plasma plague marine squad, the justicar causing 3 wounds and finishing the combat. They consolidate a triumphant 6 towards the squad with melta's. Daemonhunters: My Terminators (BC and 1 T) move into range to charge. My Knights (Justicar and 2 knights) move into range to charge. My chimera moves into range to flamer. My rhino scoops up my squad of storm troopers and moves 12 to catch up to the terminators. Chimera sprays the squad of plague marines with its flamer, and accomplishes nothing, the storm bolter on top was ineffective. The inquisitor squad opens fire on the remaining chaos terminators dropping another 2, 1 from a plasma cannon 1 from a las pistol? (lawls? lord and 1 left). Terminators and knights open fire on the squad of plague marines (melta) but fail to drop any. My knights charge in. They tear into the squad killing 2 before the the marines strike. They take out 2 knights. The brother captain swings his mighty hammer in tandom with the champion. My last terminator drops so only my justicar and brother captain stand. But in turn 3 more plague marines drop dead. (2 plague marines and the champion.) Turn Five: Chaos: His Terminators move forward and open fire, they manage to kill nothing from my inquisitor squad before charging in. Close combat sees his squad of plague marines with melta's fighting a close fight, my justicar tears into his squad killing 1 more plague marine, not enough. His champion gets to swing. His champ and my brother captain kill each other, the brother captain splattering his last marine. My justicar consolidates 4 inches towards the remaining foe. In close combat amazingly he fails to cause any wounds with his terminator, and his chaos lord rolls a 1 and wounds himself. On the return I manage to cause no wounds to him until one of the sages manages to shot his remaining terminator in the eye. Just the chaos lord left... I win combat by 2 (1 wound from himself) and he makes his saves. Daemonhunters: My chimera moves to prepare to open fire on his terminators. My knight moves to join combat. Charges in. Storm troopers with melta's take up positions. The chaos lord turns around and with a higher initiative cuts my remaining justicar to pieces. My inquisitor squad quietly flails and does nothing. I make it run away. We roll and that's game and it does. The Lone Chaos Lord Looks around, his weapon gripped in his hand... guns pointed at him from all directions... the inquisitor squad he just ran off had only retreated to take aim. He had lost... Lungboy
Is there any reason you took your PAGK as FA and then didn't deep strike them? Seems like they would have been better as troops. Also, your Inq and retinue seem like a good long range firebase, so why not give the Acolyte artificer armour rather than a bolter? Tauren
*Shrug* choices really. This is more an all comers list than anything, plus I really am newb. That said It really depends on what was happening. I have 3 troop units already and was unsure as to what he was going to bring with 250 more points. He mentioned a vehicle so I thought, having 2 options to take out his vehicle (deep striking unit of knights) and a unit in a rhino might be a better option for what was probably gonna be a tank. Additionally I would have more options tactically. As far as the acolyte, I was just playing with his setup. The bolter adds an extra shot versus an extra save. In this game it surprisingly didn't matter at all, as I just tore his army apart with my heavy weapons squad. This is really my second game ever played against a decent opponent and was really fun. Plus he was actually failing saves this time :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158138-battle-report-1250-pts-daemonhunters-versus-chaos-marines/#findComment-1852514 Share on other sites
NemFX
Can I request pictures of your army? I wanna see if they'd be able to hold back the Enclave :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158138-battle-report-1250-pts-daemonhunters-versus-chaos-marines/#findComment-1874189 Share on other sites
Tauren
I'm still working on converting them. The army is getting a bit of a dirtier theme than the "perfect" brotherhood. Additionally each model as somewhere between 5-10 or so crystals of varying size on them, I plan to paint the ones on the knights "brighter" to represent their pyschic resonance being close to the crystals. Currently I only have 1 unit of stormtroopers done. They got additional purity seals, silver chain at various locations, and cog wheel washers and guitar wire connections.
