Display Cabinet...

Hey guys,

just wanted to show you the top shelf of my display cabinet where my finished Metallic Models will be, It's still WIP so still needs spraying and painting. The only problem with it was that when it dried after texturing, with sand and flock (I used a whole £5 tub on this one shelf :D), It dried bent so looks a bit uneven. Well who said the battlefields of the 41st millennium had to be flat and made of glass?. :( ;)

Also, I wanted to know if anybody knew where I could get some sort of background for the back and left side of the cabinet. (I want it to look like a real desert but with a hint of ruined 40K buildings in the background.)

Here's the flocked surface with my 1st tactical squad, it should look like their base colours once painted:

Close-up of the sides that I want to cover with some sort of background:

And the whole thing:

I don't really see the warping. But, I suppose you can use the old standby of dampening the bottom to give it some flex again, then placing it on a tile floor and stacking all the out of date GW material on top of it ;)

As for the backdrop, I'd say start doing some searches on line for what you like (like SW Desert scenic shots), then photo shop in some 40k buildings in the foreground. Maybe paint up some bits of city to place in front of that to add a more 3D Diorama feel. If you want a more barren look, go for a very stark wide angel shot and just photoshop in the ruins in the distance. Then mount the photo just like you would for an aquarium.

Those are my ideas at least :P

I reckon you should search through some sites and look for a decent piccy of a ruined city, may sound cheap but just use google images, then print off the picture, go to a shop with a copier and blow them up.

To make it a bit more 'realistic' i'd buy some of GW cities of death scenery and have a ruin or two on the shelf itself, gives it a bit of the old dynamics.

cool thanks, it's quite hard to find any good pictures for ruined cityscape, so I did a search for desertscape. Again not many good ones but I narrowed it down to these four:

Now I have to decide which one...

EDIT: I think I've found the right one...

Please do not hot link to material you do not own.

Thanks

Update:

I did a mock up of Some Printed paper pieces, blu-tacked to the sides, here it is:

I'm planning on lowering it and adding to the sky, which I mistakenly left off a bit to fit in some more sand, but the sand at the bottom is a bit too pixelised to I'm going to lower it to make it look better. I'm printing the extra sky pieces now  (if there is enough ink in the printer that is)
