metcalfedan
Hey guys, just wanted to show you the top shelf of my display cabinet where my finished Metallic Models will be, It's still WIP so still needs spraying and painting. The only problem with it was that when it dried after texturing, with sand and flock (I used a whole £5 tub on this one shelf :D), It dried bent so looks a bit uneven. Well who said the battlefields of the 41st millennium had to be flat and made of glass?. :( ;) Also, I wanted to know if anybody knew where I could get some sort of background for the back and left side of the cabinet. (I want it to look like a real desert but with a hint of ruined 40K buildings in the background.) Here's the flocked surface with my 1st tactical squad, it should look like their base colours once painted: http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0554.jpg Close-up of the sides that I want to cover with some sort of background: http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0555.jpg And the whole thing: http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0553.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158183-display-cabinet/ Share on other sites

SpeakerfortheDead
Perhaps search through deviantart.com and find a nice ruined cityscape* you like and have it printed. That way you have a beautiful background pretty quick and cheap. Otherwise you'll have to paint it yourself. *Or appropriate 40k artwork. Justin Kase
I don't really see the warping. But, I suppose you can use the old standby of dampening the bottom to give it some flex again, then placing it on a tile floor and stacking all the out of date GW material on top of it ;) As for the backdrop, I'd say start doing some searches on line for what you like (like SW Desert scenic shots), then photo shop in some 40k buildings in the foreground. Maybe paint up some bits of city to place in front of that to add a more 3D Diorama feel. If you want a more barren look, go for a very stark wide angel shot and just photoshop in the ruins in the distance. Then mount the photo just like you would for an aquarium. Those are my ideas at least :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158183-display-cabinet/#findComment-1852357 Share on other sites
Monstra Sumus
I reckon you should search through some sites and look for a decent piccy of a ruined city, may sound cheap but just use google images, then print off the picture, go to a shop with a copier and blow them up. To make it a bit more 'realistic' i'd buy some of GW cities of death scenery and have a ruin or two on the shelf itself, gives it a bit of the old dynamics. metcalfedan
cool thanks, it's quite hard to find any good pictures for ruined cityscape, so I did a search for desertscape. Again not many good ones but I narrowed it down to these four: Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4 Now I have to decide which one... EDIT: I think I've found the right one... Image 5 ++EDIT++ Please do not hot link to material you do not own. metcalfedan
Thanks guys, but I just found this picture: Image It's perfect because it is big enough to be printed without being pixelised and the sand is the same colour as the sand on my bases. :P ++EDIT++ Changed hotlink into a normal link. metcalfedan
Didnt have chance to be on today yet so couldnt post  , models ofcourse looks very well as said before. The landscape looks very promising with the picture u linked. I look forward for updates :D. Thanks  Update: I did a mock up of Some Printed paper pieces, blu-tacked to the sides, here it is: http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0612.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0613.jpg I'm planning on lowering it and adding to the sky, which I mistakenly left off a bit to fit in some more sand, but the sand at the bottom is a bit too pixelised to I'm going to lower it to make it look better. I'm printing the extra sky pieces now  (if there is enough ink in the printer that is) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158183-display-cabinet/#findComment-1873914 Share on other sites

Stefoserpent
Yes , it looks pretty good. But , have you glued sand on plain glass? Why dont you use polystyrene , to give a nice multi-leveled surface , with craters and buildings? I think that would be better Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158183-display-cabinet/#findComment-1874402 Share on other sites
