Mosk
Is two exorcists and the one immolator with heavy bolter rets inside a good heav support set up, or would 3 exorcists or 3 immolators or any other combo be beter? RandomGuy
Personally I run either 2 or 3 exorcists depending on how competitive I am feeling. The opinion where I am is taking 2 means the enemy bother with tanks and 3 well any mech army can just give up. I don't own any rets but I don't see them as having as many uses as people think. To me the main strength of the sisters is having a mobile firebase that gets up close. Virtually nothing in the army needs to stay still to be effective at shooting and with the rets well if they are moving then they can't shoot. I would say as a 3rd heavy they would be worth a try though. Just be warned that if they are going to be small enough in number to fit in the immolator and be allowed it as a transport vehicle then they will not be terribly good at making the acts of faith for divine guidance which is what makes them a potent ranged threat. Also as anyone who has used devastators will be able to tell you without the extra girls to take off to shooting your heavy weapons will be dieing pretty quick... If you want immolators then I suggest you either get them for your celestians or dominions as a transport vehicle that or use them as a heavy choice. That's what I do. Quasarcq
I suppose this question depends on the size of the force. 1000 points or lower you will probably have only one or two heavy slots filled. 1500 points is tricky. While 3 exorcists works excellent, typically this arrangement works better at the 1750, 1850+ size. But since 5th ed has made the game more concentrated on robust troop choices, the retributor squad packed with 4 heavy bolters is an excellent option. The problem is that 10 sisters with 4 heavy bolters is well over 200 points and will be your most expensive unit and it is also very static. I suppose you could get a minimum 6 strong retributor squad and purchase an Immolator dedicated transport for that extra burning power at the cost of a robust unit. Put the retirbs in cover with good LOS and run the immolator on its own. Trying to drive a heavy weapon squad into a good position has never made sense to me. This would run along with 2 exorcists at the higher point level games. The exos truly run better with a minimum of 2 in the list. You should still build your force based on your troop choices: on foot, or in rhinos and how many squads. Once you have those points figured out then figure out your other unit type slots. I'm not sure exactly what is best as different combos would have advantages against different list. If you are trying to go all comer, I'd suggest 2 exos and 1 10 strong unit of retributor with HBs. The retrib squad is only 1 KP and is very robust put in cover. The key is giving them good LOS and the greatest 36" field of fire on the table. GodwynDi
I regularly run a ret squad with an immolator. It works quite well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158196-3-exorcists-of-3-immolators-w-rets/#findComment-1851741 Share on other sites
