Chimera or Rhino for Arbites

WHich is better Chimera or Rhino for Arbites/IST?

Chimeras are 20 points more then a rhino, but have extra weapons and better front armour. Rhinos have better side armor. Chimera can fit extra troops in it so you could have a squad of 10 arbites and 1 priest in it, with a rhino only 9 arbits and 1 priest (can priests go into vehicles?)

It depends on what you're using them for;

Chimera: 30pts more (you have to buy a turret weapon). It's a good vehicle for transporting IST's to capture objectives. The weaker side armour means you need to think carefully about positioning, to ensure the wide front arc is kept towards the enemy. I also find they can be great harassment units; give them a turret heavy flamer (negates their BS3) and attack infantry.

Chimera, turret heavy flamer, extra armour, smokes

(88 points)

Rhino: Good for basic transport and for melta-rush, I'd say take the Rhino unless you have a plan with the Chimera. The Rhino has tougher side armour and is much cheaper.

Priests can go inside vehicles, however I would suggest that you attach Priests to Celestian units (ie retinues to a Canoness). With up to 3 eviscerators in the squad (Canoness, Priest and VSS), plus re-rolls to hit on the charge (and the ability to boost the unit with Faith), they'll eat pretty much anything.

if you use the FW update your Chimeras only cost 55pts with laser and heavy bolter as standard

Sadly in everywhere not europe, FW isn't used.

if FW books are sold all over the world, then that statement is false, its up to the players, not your country

I think more what Tauren is getting at is that not a lot of tournaments allow FW rules. Friendly games, sure, but still the books aren't widely spread in my area except for the diehards and the rules aren't allowed in any of my local tournaments (which might explain why they're so few who bought the books here).
