For Anti infantry it's alright, but with so many cover saves around in 5th, you're better off with divine guidance and flamers. The other problem is that you HAVE to take 2 guard troops choices. That's either 2 armored fist squads, 2 infantry platoons or a mixture. The pair of those will cost in the region of 350-450 points. When you add the russ that's over 1/3 of a 1500 point list on guardsmen that have virtually no hitting power due to their flashlights and low bs. In short not really a game winning 500 points. On the other hand for those 500 points I could get 2 sisters of battle squads and an exorcist. Personally I'd say that guard at the moment aren't the best choice, partly because they are having a codex update soon anyway. After that we'll either find that the rules are no longer compatible or they may become a more viable choice. Right now what makes them even remotely competitive is the doctrines, something that we don't have access to. Toogeloo Posted January 21, 2009 Share Posted January 21, 2009 As RG stated, currently it isn't worth the points to attempt fielding a Leman. I could potentially see it in 2000+ games, but nothing less, and even then I would be wondering why I'm not fielding 3 Exorcists and 6 Battle Sister Squads since those two FoC selections are the best there is in a Sisters of Battle army. If you must field a Leman, keep it simple and keep it themed. If you are mech Sisters, Armoured Fist will fit in nicely with the Rhino Rush. Personally, the best way Ive seen Inducted Guard work is without the Leman though. One maxed out Platoon with HQ Plasma Pistol, 3 Plasma Guns, Medic, and 5 squads of Autocannons and Missle Launchers. This gives you a TR choice that acts like a super Retributor squad and can score on all individual units. Just one makes a pretty decent addition to a ~5 Battle Sister, ~3 Exorcist Army, though it hurts you in KP games. I agree that it may be better to wait for the new Guard Codex, and pray that the units have the same names so that we can even Induct them again. Grand Master Tyrak Posted January 21, 2009 Share Posted January 21, 2009 It's worth taking a look at Imperial Armour Volumes 1 & 2. 2 details what other inducted IG units can be used as Heavy Support, and 1 has the rules. A Leman Russ may not be so good, but a Leman Russ Vanquisher? Thunderbolt Fighter? Yes please. More to the point, the new possibilities are 0-1 of each. So it is entirely possible to fill your Heavy Support choices with inducted IG tanks, as long as you have 2 Inducted Guard Troop choices and the points to spare.
