Lamenters 5th Company

Well about 18 months ago I decided that my old DIY Space Marine chapter was looking a bit worse for wear. They had served with me from the 3rd War of Armageddon to the Fall of Medusa V, and they were beginning to show their age. So I went a splurged out on a new Space Marine army so the old Chapter could retire. I've always had problems painting Space Marines to a standard I'm happy with (as opposed to my IG and DE armies), but with this new army I wanted a challenge and to try and show myself I could paint Marines. After a while I plucked up the courage and decided to tackle a chapter I had loved since the moment I heard of them, the Lamenters.

So without much further rambling from me, here is a test mini that I painted a few months ago. Unfortunately I've now forgotten how I got quite this shade of yellow as my other test mini has a much flatter colour. He's still a WIP, I need to paint the chequers onto his shoulder pad and I may try and tackle the Chapter Symbol. When I base him I'm debating about adding his damaged helmet (complete with red stripe of course).

Thoughts and comments more than welcome.

I like your sig!

Anyway, I am endeared by the story. My first thought was, "I hope he can get the Chapter symbol quick and easy". I also hope this one model did not take long to work on.

That is not meant against the style. Yellow is a really tough color to "get right" and I have a deep respect for peole who can pull it off well. The inking is great because it gives him depth and that "used" look.

If you can bore out the barel, then I think it will go a long way. Even for a Tactical marine. Beyond that I would try to make the task less complicated: use a white (or grey?) undercoat. It's my best advice and probably not really the best.

Keep up the good work and ;)

there are some spots of green? Whats up with that?

I think those are from the fact that he undercoated black and those are spots of inadequate coverage.

As a fellow Lamenter, I must encourage you to spray white. I remember when I started black and my results always turned out similar.

Other than that its looking good. I know how frustrating this scheme can get, but keep up the good work.

BTW im also doing 5th company so well have to compare notes!

I've got a soft spot for the Lamenters, if I ever do an official GW chapter it'll be the Lamenters. :)

It looks like you're making life difficult for yourself and using a black undercoat, as Race Bannon and DutchKillsRambo have already said use a white undercoat. You'll get a nice even yellow with far less work, which means you'll be more likely to get an army of the little blighters finished. ;)

Having said that I like him and yes I think you should add the damaged helmet when you do the base. ^_^
