jay79
the black reach dread is not good enough for Autolochus IMO.I'll need something more... honorable ^^ That's true. You would need a venerable/ironclad dreadnought for Autolochus. n00byfied
@r166: Thanks. It's pretty simple actually. I started with Hawk Turquoise on a large area, Smoke (Vallejo) next and finally chaos black. All of them strongly diluted (1 part color to at least 10 parts water). I try not to drown the mini with my wash, but to add very thin and controlled layers. The brushstrokes should always end in the shadow area. There are a lot of good tutorials for that (e.g. www.coolminiornot.com) on the internet. (This technique works pretty well with the new GW washes by the way. The result may not be as fine, but it's much faster than with diluted paint.) @jay79: I was thinking about the standard Forgeworld venerable dreadnought (did I say honorable last time? ^^). I wanted to order some FW stuff anyway. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158440-iron-snakes/page/2/#findComment-1862744 Share on other sites
battle captain corpus
Very nice work, gotta say its good to see more and more people painting the old Iron snakes! What base colour did you use for the cloak? And how did you get the snow that way? Corpus :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158440-iron-snakes/page/2/#findComment-1862758 Share on other sites
n00byfied
@battle captain corpus The cloak was basecoated with white. I used Hawk Turqoise and Black for shading, very thin as usual. (Black only in the deepest shadows) Procedure for the snow was the following: White base coat -> white+ice blue glazes -> ice blue -> ice blue + hawk turqoise -> hawk turqoise -> hawk turqoise with some black. In the end i added some spots with a warm purple to make it look more interesting. (cold/warm contrast is always looking interesting on bases) The other bases were done with baking powder (not so fancy, but cheao ;-)).
