MuGGzy
I am considering purchasing some Loyalist Jump Packs to make some Raptors. They are MUCH cheaper and more readily available than the actual Raptor packs. I was just wondering if anyone could think of any problems with doing this. Would it break WYSIWYG or ruin any fluff or whatever? I don't care for the look of the raptor casts, old or new, and can't stomach paying almost $10 per model at retail. Thoughts or comments? Redbaron997
No its perfectly fine, What i would do if I was getting taking raptors would be to buy a box of CSM, and then a pack of the loyalist jump packs. Cheaper, looks better, and all plastic. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158473-chaos-raptors/#findComment-1855550 Share on other sites

Dark Disciple
Thats exactly what I plan on doing when I make some Raptors for my Word Bearers. They look better and since they have all the equipment they need wont break WISYIWIG and have the added benifit of not falling down as muchand breaking. Just remember to let us see how they come out :( Disciple Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158473-chaos-raptors/#findComment-1855682 Share on other sites

Go for it, it's perfectly legit as a jump pack is a jump pack.If you want to add a more Chaos'y feeling to them you can get your hands on some plasticard, and do this: I cannot remember the exact thickness of the sheets but, I can check it for you if you need it. Magnus Thane
I so love this idea. I may do it myself. Can you order the packs seperately from GW? I assume it turns out way cheaper than buying the Raptors in metal? doctor_wu
Yes it would. I have done similar with loyalist jump packs. However there used to be a bg that conatined 10 jump packs for $15. however I stopped seeing them like in may of last year. Of course it turns out way cheaper the current raptor models are a rip off. It also may be better if you have a renegade it may actually be fluffier. You of course could mix and match assault marine parts with chaos space marine bits. You may need to convert the bodies. however the assult amrnies have very dynamic heads. I also have put some spikes on the jump packs from the tyranid biomorph sprue. Raiding some loyalist armor may be a necessity for the legions if it has parts. Or killing recent converts to chaos for their new armor is fluffy. Dog_Soldier
I've always been partial to Lord Magyar's most excellent jump pack tutorial. Lord Magyar's Turbine Jump Packs If I ever add raptors to my army I plan on doing them that way. JamesI
My raptors are made from normal chaos marines with loyalist jump packs. Never had a problem using them. Brother Asmodius
Thats exactly the way i modeled my raptors because it is far cheaper. I bought the loyalist assault squad box and just mixed it with spare CSM bits i had left over. It works fine and I've never had any complaints about it though they do fit in with the Red Corsairs fluff better than some. Good luck modeling. Magnus Thane
Well i do have A LOT of CSM bits left around. And it's tempting, certainly not much to file of. For the moment i have enough work with my upcoming rhino's and a butload of Chaos Termies (25 or so) to assemble/paint. But afterwards i'll add 10 or so Assault Marines with CSM bits to the whole. Crovan
I have always hated the Raptor packs. I think it's perfectly acceptable to use the loyalist variants, and I did so myself in my Chaos army's previous incarnation. In fact, I think I still have a few... Tvayumat
If any of ya'll have some spare raptor packs, I will take them off your hands :D I disagree with everyone it seems, I want to put raptor jump packs on all my loyalist assault marines, lol. Problem being.... I can't find any.... :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/158473-chaos-raptors/#findComment-1886081 Share on other sites

doctor_wu
Sure the rpator jump packs look nice but $9 for one is too much. The cost on them needs to come down. Seriously raptors cost one dollar less than a freaking terminator. That is why so few people use the models thy are unaffordable. Make a plastic raptors then everything will be better. LtGrimly
Another option to consider is to use the wings from the possessed chaos frame. I didn't like putting the wings on my possessed models, and may end up using them as mutated regular chaos marines anyway. I'm not a big fan of the possessed unit - since they are very expensive points, for a unit that may not reach the enemy. Too expensive for a diversion. But the winged backpacks are great - you get two wings per set of possessed. I'm considering getting a couple of more sets to create regular marines, and using the wings with regular marines to create Rapters. Berzerker models would also work great because of the dynamic poses with those models. If you are building namy chaos units, you should have plenty of spare heads to use instead of the berzerker helmets. I haven't figured the cost impact of this approach, but am just starting to work on it because the models would look great - very chaos. doctor_wu
Teh wings also could be used for a lord or sorcerer. You will not get enough for a unit though unless you buy a ton of possessed models. It would end up getting to expensive for in game use. daemon*hunter
Bu... wha.... bu.... how can you not like rapters? ;) there not too expensive... more then they should be, but... plastic ones would be good! Epic Thoughts
I totally agree. The metal models for raptors are brilliant, but, they're simply cost prohibitive. GW should get around to showing Chaos some love and getting us some plastic raptors and obliterators. Democratus
The metal Raptor models are also top-heavy. Every time someone bumps into the table my entire squad flops over to the ground. I like the loyalist models if only because they are plastic and low to the table. I like the loyalist models if only because they are plastic and low to the table. GORKAMORKA! Sorry. Had too many people I used to game with at Adeptus Nocturnus jokingly try to count figures that tip over as casualties, so whenever I see an excessively top-heavy figure, that's what I tend to think. I personally just give regular BP/CCW marines jump pack and the correct weapons, and call them raptors. Everybody likes seeing flying Khorne Berzerkers coming their way. CratZ
I too am considering the option of buying loyalist assault marines and using left overs from my CSM and Berzerker boxes to convert them. What I am wonderin is that, does the assault marine box come with an option for lightning claws? nuclear.anxiety
I'm mixing loyalist with chaos bits, as i had some SM jump pack assault models lying around not being used, and i got lots of chaos bits. Fits in with the idea behind my black legion, and i got a raptor squad without paying anything (not counting the forking out for the SM assault squad a few years ago...) All the weapons, most arms, some torsos are chaos, i was considering using a metal raptor as the champ, i don't know how that would look as a unit but i like the idea...
