Cults In The Chaos Renegades

First up, I know the hobby is what you make of it. If something has little information, make up your own and use your own stuff when canon comes along.

Now, I'm just wondering, with the Chaos Space Marine codex and its "new generation" of Chaos Marines, has anyone thought about what cults the Renegades might have/use? Like World Eaters - Cult of Khorne, etc, etc. (By cults, I mean, serving their respective god in a certain way, not necessarily joining one of the legions)

Some of the Renegades are somewhat obvious as to which Chaos God they serve, the Purge, the Flawless Host and Knights of Blood spring to mind as examples. But are there other Renegades you might consider servants of a single Chaos God? Could you see the Dragon Warriors as followers of Tzeentch for example?

What do you all think?

the legions you mention are just newly created examples for the sake of showing different paint jobs. You can make up any you want and yes all manner of "renegades" would decide to follow one god or another and not necc feel the need to join a specific cult but still might gravitate towards like minded individuals. Make up your own fluff...

For example.

A small tactical unit that for whatever reason decided to go renegade, maybe they were left behind on a particularly nasty planet, and in their anger, or due to the "whispers in their heads" they went nuts and slaughtered many local civilians. At which point Khorne took a particular interest in them and "blessed" them with some visual attribute and compelled them to get to the Maelstrom and seek others like themselves... etc..

Its not for me, I'm trying to get a friend back into the hobby, and he had a certain style of play. I've tried telling him to make up his own stuff, but its like arguing with a brick wall '

I know how that feels.(My friend can`t choose an army, at all) If he really want to start chaos, i suggest telling him about the 4 gods and let him pick which he likes best.

Black Legion with elements from WE, TS, DG, EC. 3.5 Edition army, which at last count was approximately 10000pts (and now that I think about it, was really 5 armies in one).

He quit and sold the army because his girlfriend at the time wanted him to "grow up".

Well, now he got rid of her (good for him, she was, how to say this kindly?.......I can't, so I'll leave it there), and wants to start again, so he has decided to go for a Renegade force with some cult elements, hence the question.

From what I can tell, he kinda wants to go for and why;

Undivided - Red Corsairs

Khorne - Skyrar's Dark Wolves (Grey colour makes a change from the usual red)

Tzeentch - Dragon Warriors (The Renegade symbol looks like an infinity symbol...Applied Physics graduate :) )

Slaanesh - Violators (well, they are actually a Slaaneshi force)

Nurgle - The Purge (Again, makes sense)

I hope he makes his mind up soon, he is driving me crazy :wallbash:

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have started collecting a Chaos army, but I'm having a tough time deciding which direction to go with the fluff. I can't just build an army without some fluffiness, but I'm not super hardcore about it either.

I love the Noise Marines, but I also really like the Khorne Berzerkers. I like the story, background, and the color scheme of the Red Corsairs, but at the same time a primarily purple Slaaneshi force would also be a lot of fun. The only thing I know for certain is that I want to run a lot of tanks (Rhinos, couple Preds, probably a couple vinds, and a LR or two), and I don't like being limited on which cult marines to use. And I definitely don't want to go with something like the Black Legion that is just huge and common.

A renegade force like the Red Corsairs can include members who have devoted themselves to a particular god. An assualt squad that has gone rogue probably has a better than even chance of ending up worshipping khorne due to the nature of thier speciality, then you can run them as Beserkers (on foot) or Raptors (JP's).

My Corsairs army will be running a Khorne dedicated Raptor squad, representing just the scenario above.

And thats not taking into account the "hired guns" theory.

Tzeentch - Dragon Warriors (The Renegade symbol looks like an infinity symbol...Applied Physics graduate )

Most people really don`t know if dragon warriors are Tzeentch or Khorne. Some say Tzeentch because of the symbol. Others say khorne because of their helmets and close range fighting style. So want i`m doing is making my dragon warriors both khorne and tzeentch deciding on my oppenent lists. If i want to make blood spill i will add zerkers with rhinos or use ts with predators for a shooting lists. This way i can have both Tzeentch and Khorne list apart or together and my enemy willn`t start letuctering me.(I`m the youngest at my gaming group) So your friends could have two armies in one.

Sorry for the spelling errors, i`m home with the flu. :D

Or you could do what I am doing...

The army is "Emperor's Children" sorta, but it is painted cvery similar to their scheme and most of the iconography is Slaaneshi. However I was like you, wanting to still use Berzerkers and Plaguies etc. So the solution was. CSM modeled with a couple zerker parts (legs and weapons) but painted as ECs and a slightly off shade color from the rest of the army, representing EC marines that had become addicted to the "thrill" of melee combat and focused on that. The PMs also are basically just normal CSM minis but I have modeled massive numbers of drug injectors on them, they are marines that are so addicted to drugs that they stumble into combat semi conscious and feel nothing... That way I get the big fluffy army that matches in color scheme and has lots of noise marines but can also use the other cult elite units. If I ever wanted to do 1k Sons, I would just do them up as borderline zombie CSMs that had so overstimulated themselves that they were virtually lobotomized and needed a "tender" to even be able to keep it together enough to pull a trigger.
