Painted Army Photos

A few of these seem to have cropped up here at the Fang recently, and I thought I might as well share mine with you. But first, a little preamble before the shiney pictures... that most of you will invariably skip in pursuit of aforementioned piccies.

I started Space Wolves in I believe 2002 - to be honest I can't remember. This brings together minis I painted back then, and some that I literally did this evening and brings me to my first point. Yes, this is all the stuff I have painted for Space Wolves, some of which have never seen the field of battle, others have strode into the mouth of hell triumphant. And yet the task of painting still goes on... for me, a Predator Destructor, 2nd Long Fangs pack and Blood Claw Bikers [LPC] are amongst those. But once in a while it's nice to look back on everything we've done - both in terms of quantity and quality. Over some 7 years I've gone from no undercoat, totally unconverted models to using FW bits, kitbashing most models and for my Daemons even forging into sculpting. It's great to see the improvement on what we once felt happy with and now would be ashamed to declare finished. Despite this though, the improvement from model to model reminds us that we still have a long way to journey.

Space Wolves were my first 40K army - and until recently my only real army. I dabbled with the Ordo Malleus, but that was mostly because I could slot them in once in a while and because I liked the minis. One of these days I'll go back and do them justice. Until then they linger in my case. I also tried 'Nids but was never able to get to grips with them.

I've won Tournies with my Wolves, and they were for nearly a year the scourge of the gaming tables at the club I run, with an impressive win streak ended at Northampton in a Tornuament by a Dark Angel List - I've still not beaten him. And yet it was whilst preparing for a new Tornuament - the Combat Patrol of the Schools League I finally met my match. In 6 games I lost every one, trying a couple of variations but unable to win. As it is a team event, I felt this wasn't going to work, and this has served as the impetous to start a new army - and a Fresh Challenge. I hope to have an Army of the Primordial Annihilator - Daemons, Chaos Marines and Renegade Guard. To this end I have a burgeoning Daemons force demanding my attention for March 3rd.

As a result of this - and a lack of any new Wolves Codex in the imminant future (GDUK at the earliest) - I'm hanging up my pelt for now. I'll still be around here and as mentioned I have plenty of Wolves to paint, but I won't be buying any more for now and they'll be playing second fiddle for awhile. I'd like to thank the occupants of the Fang, and the B&C at large for being such excellent brothers during my time here.

And now, Pics!

Don´t mind, Vas. It absolutly ok to make a break from the Wolves. From time to time everyone of us need a bit alternation. For me atm it´s my Salamanders project. After 9000 points of SW i wanted to paint something else then grey. But i still play with my SW too (one WE SW and the next Sallies). Earlier or laster we all came back to our roots, to the SW. Once a SW, always a SW.

Nice army but don't hang up your pelt cause you lost some games. Heck I prefere it when I run into an equal match that can beat me, someone who actually puts up a fight and that I have to work to defeat, even if it takes a while. Learn, improve, and smack em down eventually. But I wouldn't recommend starting new armies just to try and beat tough opponents.

Course if your starting new armies because you really want too, all the power to ya, but don't shelve the wolves after a few lickings.

Looks good, shame your hanging the pelt up till the next dex, I get your point, but i could never use a other Power armor army, I also have nids, about 1500 pt but dont feel like playing them, even reading the dex is a bore to me.

So good luck.

Firstly, thanks to all those who have commented - it means a lot.

Yes, the camera is a bit shocking. Hasn't been the same since Chile to be honest.

The reason I'm putting the Wolves on hold is really a combination of factors - with the Schools League being the straw that breaks the camels back as it were. To be honest, I don't really know what more I want to do with the Wolves until the new Codex comes out and all the stuff that is currently up in the air is sorted out. They aren't going away or being forgotten, I'm just trying something a bit different.

I've always found the forces of Chaos interesting and my brother has a CSM army - or the beginnings of one at any rate. I really like the new Daemons minis and with a new IG Dex coming soon, the idea of a combined Daemons, Renegades, Traitors and Tanks (yes, more tanks) seemed like the perfect change of pace from the Wolves.

As I work at a local stockist I find time to read the Codices and so I decided to set myself a totally new challenge - write a 500pts Daemons list designed to win in competitive Tournuaments, then buy assemble and paint said list as the beginnings of the above (hopefully Apocalyptic) army. My Wolves have always been about what looked cool and whatever idea struck me at the time.
