jimbo1701 Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 Greetings brothers! First up I'm a BA player with a rather extensive army, so I'm used to playing marines. Soon as the new SM codex came out I couldn't resist buying it and a few of the new models (i.e. scout bikers, telion, sternguard) and so I kinda switched to playing codex marines with my army for a while. While digging out some old 2nd ed models recently (and reading some of the new horus heresy series) I became interested in starting a 2000 points tourny style lunar wolves army. Due to their temperment and background, LWs seem to have similarities to SWs and thus I'd like to use their rules if possible, which would be especially cool with a new codex on the horizon. (and would make a change from codex marines) So, my forces currently stand as being: 6x wolf guard terminators 1x SW captain 1x landspeeder Not much I know, but I plan on getting one unit of blood claws, grey hunters and long fangs as well in the near future, as well as a dreadnought and a leman russ exterminator. My plans for them are as follows: grey hunters - use forgeworld red scorpion pack to make them look pre-heresy blood claws - get some pre-heresy JPs from a website, although I understand they can only take them at 30pts each in an FA slot wolf guard terminators - customise to look pre-heresy Questions I have for you guys (thanks for bearing with me) are as follows: 1. Are SWs and LWs compatible in terms of fluff, fighting style and rules? 2. Would WGTs look wrong with just the different shoulders i.e. heads the same? 3. Is there any point using the blood claws with JPs, as I'd really like to for the modelling but can see they're not a viable option in the codex. (any ideas for new codex?) 4. What kind of pre-heresy weaponry is available and would this limit my army too much? I gather from novels they make use of the following: ranged = bolter/bolt pistol/combi-weapons/flamer/plasma CC = chainsword/Power weapon (others?) heavy = missile launcher (cyclone?)/plasma cannon/heavy bolter/autocannon 5. What units would be suggested to add to what I already have in mind (bearing in mind the weapon constraints) in order to make the force viable? Vash113 Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 Luna Wolves sound similar to the Space Wolves but they're not really. The Space Wolves are organised as packs and have an inate predisposition towards close combat. The Luna Wolves are the height of martial discipline and have Tactical, Assault and Devastator squads like other Codex Chapters. If you want to do Luna Wolves you'd be better off using Codex: Chaos Space Marines to get access to pre-heresy wargear.
