Question About Transports

yeah, what you said.

You give them to a storm trooper squad and then deploy them seperate. On turn one you can embark in the rhino.

Thats what I thought but want hear it from one of you experts :HQ: But now what about thechimera? Can grey knights ride in that?

Thanks for the help man.

No, Grey Knights cannot purchase a Rhino as a transport, nor can they hitch a ride in an IST one. DH's have a small box above the transport section (pg. 30 of the codex) that states that it can only be used for the unit it was bought for ie IST's, Inquisitor, allied SoB etc.

The only transport available to Grey Knights are Landraiders and Crusaders, in Heavy Support.

Sucks in a way, that was what my very first post here was about, but a wise man once told me. Grey knights are not meant to be space marines, it took me a while to figure it out. But he was right, grey knights dont need rihnos you just have to play them right. Though its always nice having raiders to shelter your guys, take two of them and those you cant fit in them march behind them till they pop out in range (24" assault 2 range remember). Dont rely on aegis when you get close up though, its only likely to work at range. Play with plenty of cover and obstacles to put between you and your enemys guns and you wont need rhinos. Im no expert player, nor have i played many games with grey knights, im just passing on the wisdom i was told in my first post and other snippets ive learnt along the way. They have wiorked for me so far.
wait isnt the DH dex a bit different here then the other dex . Doesnt it have the part with "only squad X can ride in dedicted transports"?

But I think that was when transports were dedicated, now with the new 5th edition rules any unit can take a transport bought for someone else. Dedicated transports are gone. What I didnt relise is that Terminator armor can go in a Chimera. Now that could be big.

Spot on, but since Codex overrides Rulebook we are still stuck with the Dedicated Transports rule. Just like we are stuck with force weapons that ignore Eternal Warrior.

You win some, you lose some. :P

OK so Ive been through the codex a few times this week and I dont see were it sayd that Grey Knight force weapons negate eternal warrior or anything that would mean they couldnt use a chimera or rinho that was bought for some storm troopers.

The text box at the top of p. 30 says, "Transports are always bought as an upgrade for a unit, and may only transport the unit they were bought for."

Our force weapons do not cause "Instant Death." They "slay outright." Eternal Warrior only protects against the Instant Death special rule.

It's not preferable. The way 5th edition is set up, you shouldn't need more than a turn of moving to be within 24" of your enemy. Grey Knights are so expensive that they literally HAVE to shoot, shoot, shoot, assault to make them worthwhile. A rhino actually makes them less effective vice SM or CSM who need to close to within 12" to get their rocks off with the double tap.
Actually my main point was mostly that of the stormies having a 4+ save, which is much easier to completely negate than a 3+ save. so heavy bolter = byebye stormies and all that. That, and the stormies are easier to force to retreat, too, and their gun is weaker.
