reaver13
My only army thus far is BTs, so I got bored and used some AoBR models and started working up some Crimson Fists. Pretty much my first venture painting something other than black or white! lol You guys let me know what you think. C&C definately welcome if you've got some good direction to give me. -Reaver http://i41.tinypic.com/2hn9q93.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/159645-crimson-fists/ Share on other sites
arutha
I think they look pretty cool. You seem to be a really neat painter. You might want to work on the highlights a little more, trying to blend the layers up to your final extreme highlight. They do look a little glossy to me, but that may just be the picture. Anyways keep it up. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/159645-crimson-fists/#findComment-1872439 Share on other sites

reaver13
Yea I think I'm going to have to do a dullcoat or whatever. My basecoat is necron abyss, then I wash the entire model is badab black before I do anything else. So I think the wash is giving it that glazed look. I'll try taking some pics when I can setup multiple light sources and it might diminish the glare. Anyways, thanks for the comments. @ Arutha, I notice your fists almost have a midnight blue/black quality to their overall color. Mind sharing what that color is/what brand? I like the look you can achieve with that very dark base and highlighting up to something very sharp. -Reaver Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/159645-crimson-fists/#findComment-1872612 Share on other sites
arutha
The way I do mine. Black Primer Base Coat of Necron Abyss First highlight is regal blue Second Highlight, enchanted Blue Third, Um Blue Extreme Ice Blue Key is watering your paints down, Im working with all the multiple colors in trying to practice blending. I am still not 100 percent happy with alot of my guys as it seems my transitions are not very smooth on some of the models. I just keep in mind, having that extreme highlight will allow the details on the small model be more visible and striking from a distance as that is how they will be viewed most of the time. I would say not to wash them in the badab black anymore I think that is what is giving them that glossy look. What you can do however, is after you apply all the highlights, Glaze the area in a very watered down regal blue, it really helps smooth those transitions. You just need to be very sure your paint is watered down enough that you dont drown out the lighter colors. Grimfoe
I've only done a few, but here's my formula: Prime Black then Necron Abyss Regal Blue Shadow Grey Wash with Asurmen Blue I was pretty happy with the result. reaver13
Just a quick update. I put the regular marines on the side and began working on Pedro. Plenty of small touch ups still need to be done as well as finishing the banner. He's my first IC i've painted up, and all the small details have been a little bit of a pain, but overall this is a pretty cool model. Lemme know what ya think. -Reaver http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads..._3242_30922.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/159645-crimson-fists/#findComment-1882344 Share on other sites
