WIP Ultramarines 2nd Company

StraightSilver

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

Here are some pics of my 2nd Company Ultramarines. I am notorious for starting things and never finishing them, but I hope to paint up 250pts per month of Ultras so that I can have a 1500pt playable army in the next 6 months.

So here are the WIP pics for January. 5 man Scout Squad with Heavy Bolter, 5 man Tactical Squad with Rhino Transport.

Obviously still a fair bit to do to both the Tactical Squad and the Rhino, but the Scouts are finished. I'm planning to have the Tactical squad finished by end of today as I am gaming with them this weekend, so I'll post some more pics on Monday.

Next month (well technically this month as it's now February) I will paint up my Army Commander and another Scout Squad.

Thanks for looking. :P

Lovely paint work! The blue is real nice and soft, i prefer dark blues for Ultramarines but your blue works very well! Really like the paint work on the Rhino. As mentioned by stinkenheim the lenses on the copola are awesome! Very neat job with the rear ramp, like that weathered look on it! Superb so far, shall be keeping a keen eye on future developments!

Cheers guys,

Thanks for all the comments, it always helps get me motivated, which I need as I tend to get distracted and start too many projects and finish none...

This time it's a bit different though as I am painting these as part of a challenge with 3 friends who are also painting 250pts per month, so I shouldn't lose the plot and try to start 3 other armies at the same time like I usually do!

As for the blue, yes I too prefer the darker blue Ultras, and I originally planned to paint them Regal Blue rather than Ultramarines blue in a very similar style to Spiky James on Warseer.

But then I decided against this, mainly because they just reminded me too much of Crimson Fists, and also because I struggled a bit with the highlighting. So I went for the Codex look, but I am glad I did now as I am happy how they turned out, and the blue is kind of growing on me.

And thanks for the comments about the Rhino, I really enjoyed painting it, but then I love painting tanks (I have a sizeable Imperial Guard army). The lenses actually turned out better than expected, and the ramp was my first attempt at weathering so I am glad it looks OK.

So I should have these all done by end of today (am working on the Rhino as we speak!), and will post finished pics Monday.

Then it's a Marine Captain with Combi-Melta and Relic Blade and another 5 man Scout Squad with combi-plasma and Heavy Bolter to start tomorrow.

Cheers. ;)

Do you actually happen to work for 'Eavy Metal?

If not you should apply for a job there. You've got skillz.

P.S. Seriously, it's like the best job ever, you get paid to paint models, and at your level of painting expertise you'll definately get the job.

Your glad the weathering looks OK????? *slap in the face* Dude that paint job to the ramp reeks of awesomesness, and if it really is your first attempt *gets on kness* WE ARE NOT WORTHY!!!!!!!!!!! :cuss serioulsy, that ramp job is class! The ony possible way you could make that better is if you added some rust here and there and some weathering to the armour ie bullet marks etc...

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of updates. Unfortunately "Real Life" has reared it's ugly head. My girlfriend has been very ill and so painting has had to take a back seat for a couple of weeks, which means I am a bit behind schedule, but I thought I should post what I have done so far.

Here is my next 250pts. These were due to be completed by 9th March, but I am confident that I can get them finished in a weekend.

Scout Squad 2: Sergeant Combi Plasma, Heavy Bolter, 3 x Bolters

Space marine captain: Relic Blade, Combi Plasma

Obviously still stuff to finish off but overall I am very happy with the way is turning out. I am managing to get them painted in what for me is a fast time, without feeling as though I have sacrificed any quality, or feel I have rushed.

In the next 3-4 weeks I will be painting up a 5 man assault squad and 2 Land Speeders to give me a bit more "punch".

And cheers to everyone for the positive comments, it keeps me motivated to get these guys done.

And I'm not sure why the photos are slightly soft focus, I think it's the work camera, although I think it adds a nice 80's feel to them! :HQ:

Cheers guys,

Girlfriend came home from hospital last night which has not only improved my mood (which makes me more inclined to paint), but also means I'll have more time to spend with my toy soldiers! ;)

Although no doubt if I'm not careful next month's deadline will be missed because I will be single and too depressed to paint! :(

But anyway, cheers for the positive feedback, it really does make me paint, and hopefully I should have some updates soon.

I am thinking of doing a step by step marine too, so keep an eye out for that.

Cheers for looking. :P

Hey guys, sorry for not posting for a while but I have a small update....

A bit of a disastrous month for me this time around as I have not managed to stay on schedule at all, and am now a bit behind.

I didn't get last month's squads finished and this month was supposed to finish a 5 man Assault Squad and 2 Land Speeders.

Well the Assault Squad is almost finished, but the Speeders are currently only base coated unfortunately...

Any way here's where I am with the Assault Marines, should have these finished by the end of today but won't have the camera so thought I would put these pics up anyway

Assault Marines:

Hopefully I can get back on target and get some more work done this weekend. I have to paint 5 Terminators for the next segment of the army.

Cheers for looking. :(
