scratchbuild thunderbolt

After finishing the bulk work on my titan and having no inspiration to finish it.

Given the amount of details that needed to make it pop and me having no clue how to fix it, i started on doing another project.

just to get my mind working again.

So i gave a thunderbolt a go, not a smart idea.

the hull was a nightmare to do, as you can't put it on your workbench and holding it (the parts that is) without buckling other sections. but i got it done.

engine parts were made from plastirod, and pvc tubing thats used in the netherlands for electric cabling in the wall of your home.

its cheap and comes in 4 meter lengths for about 85cents so i now have enough to last me a life time

that also fixed my probles with the hull as it also gave extra strength to the hull and kept it from breaking inwards.

the engine tubing are bendy straws.

also tried to make a pilot with spare parts, mostly SM parts and a empire pistolier head. GS gogles and airhosewith a little plastirod bend back under his arm.

here's the final result, still need to add a imperial eagle and maybe i'll paint eagle wings on the wings like the forge world one, but i'm not sure yet.

also found out that its not up to scale, it about 30% to small overall.

maybe i'll built another one that better to scale, still want a wing of these fighters (3) for apocalypse battles.

maybe with a marauder bomber. maybe

that's one nice thunderbolt that

you have there mate.

did you use templates or did you just make it

by your self????

i only have the feeling that you haven't finished painting it.

because it doesn't look realistic.

but overall it's one sick thunderbolt!!!

i haven't really finished it, as i'm a little stuck on how to continue.

i was thinking of using the new GW washes, but they leave stains on the large services so easily.

and i'm not sure how to do battle damage, haven't done that before.

so anybody with tips and tricks that can help, please... there more than welcome.

++EDIT++

Removed link to paper template torrent. Although the rules do allow templates now, please do not link to sites/torrents that have them as this is still a no-no.

so if you are dutch please quote this message and tell me were you've bought

I get my plasticard in 3 places here in the netherlands.

Nettenbouw in Gorinchem, as i live close by.

Sub-cultures in utrecht, in the warfbasement underneath "miep's strip en lectuurshop"

and a hobbyshop in rotterdam.

Oil wash:

First, gloss coat with acrylic floor varnish (aka 'Klear', 'Johnson's Klear with Future Shine'). Allow to dry thoroughly. It is important that you use an acrylic gloss. Best to use an airbrush, too.

Mix a little artists' oil paint (raw umber, ivory black, carbon black, whatever) with some low odour thinner (available from art shops), to about the consistency of dirty water. With a fine brush put a dot in a panel line or recess. The paint will run along the recess. Basically, you're doing a directed wash (just like with the citadel washes). This WILL look messy. Don't worry. Once you've got the surface washed in the recesses, allow the whole thing to dry for around 2 - 4 hours - enough for the surface liquid to go, but not enough to cure the oil paint.

Now moisten a q-tip / cotton bud with some of the thinner (note that this oil thinner won't affect the Klear, but will clean up the excess wash nicely) and gently use it to clean the excess from where it shouldn't be. Unless you want streaks, keep using clean q-tips when they get dirty. Once clean, allow to dry for around 24 hours.

Now flat coat it. I use a 70% Klear : 30% Tamiya Flat Base mix through an airbrush.
