Inter-Chapter cooperation.....

Recommended Posts

Hi there folks

I am a die-hard Dark Angel player with a complete Deathwing and Ravenwing company. I love them and until now, was quite content to continue that way. But I was recently in an apocalypse game and had to come up with some surprises and thought I'd try using some allies.

Now in my local gaming group, there are several eldar, daemon, and chaos players. Now I know my army enough to know that recent changes in our codex have made our librarians less than effective in my view and I looked toward your dex (as the only race/ally I could legally use) for inspiration. I tried out an inquisitor lord and retinue and was very impressed with the outcome.

So to get to the point of my rambling, I am here to ask what are some of your favored combinations for your lords/psykers? What (If any) retinues do you think are most effective?

Cheers and Happy Hunting

Ah, a fellow DA wanting an inquisitorial detachment ;)

Something I have thought of, but never got round to using yet, was an extremely evil idea involving a DH inquisitor and a troops choice, either GK or stormtroopers.

Inquisitor with sanctuary psychic power sits on objective, wiv a single circle of troops around them. Cast sanctuary.

No daemon unit can touch that objective now due to the sanctuary power :)

If anyone can see this going wrong, please correct me ;)

And good luck Grand Master Raziel Secundus with your venture into the inquisition

Well

From my research, Witch hunters are ace vs Eldar, and Daemonhunters are obvious. Witch hunters have a power that can reduce leadership value by 3, cripples a farseer! And being able to ignore those invulnerable saves is magic!

Fluff question:

Aren't the Dark Angels and their sucessors extremely cautious about working with Inquisitors because of the whole screw-up with the Fallen

and the blowing up of their home planet? And isn't the Inquisition extremely (more than normal, even) wary about the Dark Angels?

After all, both of them have thousands of years experience at playing their games.

And if any Inquisitor found out anything, wouldn't that pretty much get then in big trouble?

I'm not all too familiar with the Dark Angels fluff, so I'm just popping in to shoot off that question.

I know rules-wise, they can ally in Inquisitors, so that's cool.

(While interestingly enough, Inquisitors can't ally in Dark Angels or any special Codex Marines, right? Haven't got my codex with me.)

From the DH perspective, the shooty retinue with added mystics is where its at for me.

Some might argue wether it's worth the extra 2 Sages for that Plasma-Cannon reroll, but the 2 Mystics definetely

give you much for their points.

Another option might be the shooty-flamer retinue, with warriors geared up with flamers and the Inquisitor with an Incinerator

for some quick and hot action.

The warriors have BS4, which is as shooty as it gets. Fluffwise, I much prefer my Inquisitors to stand back and direct rather than storm in and flame away, as he's still a ST3 T3 human.

Hi again

Fluff wise, the DA are xenophobic fanatics (Got to love 'em) with severe distrust of everyone. That said, they IMO also realise that sometimes help can be a good thing and know of all the legions and races, the Inquistion is the most trustworthy, hence they are allowed to ally (in certain circumstances). Their ultimate goal is the capture/cleansing of the shame from the fallen and its a case of lesser of 2 evils <_<

I think I may expand my army to include a lord & retinue for future tests :P

Cheers

For game effectiveness, you can't go wrong with the Malleus firebase: Inquisitor Lord, psycannon, 2-3 Heavy Bolter servitors, 0-1 Plasma Cannon servitors, 2 sages, 1-2 mystics, 0-3 acoyltes with bolters. This unit will tear up anything that deep strikes too close, otherwise pumps out a lot of deadly fire and will never run off the table even under heavy fire.

Witch Hunter Inquisitors are better suited for assaults than shooting thanks to Crusaders and Chirurgeons in their retinues. Power weapons are also cheaper in the WH codex than in the DH codex, so power weapon spam is reasonably effective and affordable.
