Chaos vs. Imperial Gaurd

Hi all,

I wanted to start a topic covering possible ways of dealing with the new imperial gaurd tanks as detailed on Bell of Lost Souls:

http://belloflostsouls.blogspot.com/2009/0...rd-vehicle.html

I know, I know, it's all just rumour and conjecture till it's down in black and white on a GW shelf but I think we can all agree BoLS have a pretty admireable record of being right about these things, and it can't hurt to just kick a few ideas around, eh?

Top 3 problems for us as I see them:

1) Colossus: 12 10 10 Tank, Open Topped^. Colossus Siege Cannon: 24-240" S6 AP3 Heavy Artillery 1, Large Blast, Ignores cover saves.

AP3 and ignoring cover? Good look holding an objective with this around.

2) LR Executioner: 14 13 11 Tank. Executioner Plasma Cannon: 36" S7 AP2 Heavy 3

3 Plasma Cannons at once? On a vehicle, instead of infantry, so it's imune to over heating? Goodbye terminators

3)LR Exterminator: 14 13 10 Tank. Exterminator Autocannon: Heavy 4, Twin-linked.

Not as scary as the first two but Rhinos seem to have become an integral part of every tourney minded chaos player's tactics. This thing will shred a Rhino and I'm guessing it'll be their cheapest tank.

So, suggestions? Personally all I can think of is chosen infiltrating in a rhino with meltas galore. Problem is you can arrive on the wrong side of the board, chosen aren't scoring units and the gaurd player might well have 9 tanks. Even 3 squads of chosen will need 3 lucky shooting phases to dismantle that kind of tankage. All suggestions greatly appriciated.

LR Punisher: 14 13 11 Tank. Punisher Gatling Cannon: 24" S5 AP- Heavy 20.

am loling so hard . If only people could also see how much it costs . :)

As tanks go . Well termicide/oblit spam is still the best way to go nothing changes about that .

Also lemmans are all well and good , but people wont start to whine till they see pts costs and the troops/infantry section.

Some of it isnt true. :D The Leman Russ side sponson counted as defensive weapons isnt true. The support vehicles are a bit different. Among other things. For those who think much of this isnt true, I'm looking at it right now. Not kidding. :P I cant share any of it though. ;)

© issues and board rules...

However, since one unit of 10 marines upping the flank gets half the firepower thrown at him then rolling up the middle(bad idea) can melee-munch about 60 guardsmen if left unchecked, and so if 30 marines make it up there (emperor help them if they're berzerkers) then you can kill a lot of what they have goodbye. Space issues makes ordinance great, but dont count on things like sonic blasters making a difference when you really need to melee the IG. Dont settle for anything less, even using Thousand Sons. - - Dont let them shoot you for more then 2 or 3 turns if you can manage. -_-

Objectives make them walk out to you as well, they may wait a few turns and run their troops on the final 3 turns, the rhino wall and popping his indirect fire will really hamper his gameplay. Much like the ork drawback, just a bit different when the wall is near you, and not against him. A simple 140 points in rhinos could win you the game. You draw in his troops and anti-scoring other units within bolter, melta, flamer and melee range then the game is youres.

Rhinos and lots of bodies are usually good bets.

Plague Marines and Thousand Sons still retain their usefulness.

And unless something changes, stun locking a Leman Russ still works just fine, if it can't shoot, its fairly useless. Then get in close and hit it in the rear.

Just reading the latest response to the tank rumors on BoLS. Jwolf pointed out something I didn't even consider, the Executioner could potentialy have plasma cannon side arms, taking it's plasma cannon shots per turn to FIVE! Black Legion players beware
5?!?!?! :)

Plasma scares me :(

5 plasma blasts sure are scary but I wouldn't put that much firepower on just one tank, also I imagine it would be horribly expensive in points leaving guard player with only few options for rest of army = less tanks. For Punisher Gatling Cannon, 20 shots seems to be little over the top, even vulcan mega bolter has less than that.

i agree 20 shots is unlikey.

that much plasma could be an advantage... all ig players will be like 'oooh plasma! this will kill those termies nd whatever...' then have less heavy armour to worry about, making them easier to avoid/destroy then we can get to the smashin!

Guardsman are fun too kill :o

You guys do realize that's 20 Str5 ap- shots at BS3 right? Half hit, 2/3 wound, 1 third make it through armor and you've got about 2 or 3 dead marines. It's only about as effective as a squad of rapid firing bolters or most blast weapons. They just decided to be unique and make a super high rate of fire gun instead of another blast weapon.

I am a bit surprised by the plasma tank though. But really I find a mixed tyranid list to be scarier.
