Noise Marine background questions

Going by the many Noise Marine pictures I've seen, they seem to be the most "non-human" of all the cult troops (disregarding Rubric Marines).

Even more than the Plague Marines, they seem almost alien in how they mutilate their bodies.

Is there any background on this specifically?

The other question I had was, I haven't read Fulgrim and I'm sure I really want to. However I'm wondering if it has any really good information about how Noise Marines or their weapons function. I'd like a better idea of their inner workings if possible.

Certainly read "Fulgrim" IMMEDIATELY!

It's the best book that i've actually enjoyed reading, it's also currently running as the longest book in the Horus Heresy series XD

Now let's see....Noise Marines...Noise Marines....Noise Marines...

What's a word or two that I could use to briefly describe them first...

Got it! - Psychopathic, scary, sound-addicted freaks B)

First of all, where did the marines of the Emperor's Children first experience and acquire their taste of this destructive sound/sonic weaponry.

In the book of "Fulgrim" there is a woman Bequa Kynska, one of the most gifted composer and harmonists in the Imperium. Her music was so great that it even affected the demi-gods known only as the Primarchs. Legions of music lovers for her gathered to just listen to her,non-astartes sobbed during her normal perfomances. Yet, as the legion fell into the influence of Chaos, her music was to become a tool of destruction. Upon Fulgrim's ship the astartes gathered for a "special" performance of Bequa. Her music drove the Astartes warriors into a frenzy..

"Lights blazed around the theatre, flowing from the orchestral pit like liquid, the greasy, electrical fire lifting from the bizzare intruments and ahieving physicality as they became liquid serpants of myriad colours"

"...all those it touched gave themselves over to the wildest, darkest delights of their inner psyches."

Now check this part out, this probably explains why they look so....crazy...

"Julius watched as Astartes clubbed mortals to death with their fists and drank their blood or ate their flesh, scarring their skin with the broken bones and draping the torn skin of their victims about them like grisly shawls."

Alright so..eventually the orchestra is killed, as well as Bequa, by ( Will not spoil! ) the Astartes are driven into basically a "withdrawl" lol! They go crazy and pick up the bizzare intrustments and miraculously master them in minutes!

Lets see what it can do to a structure...

"A howling, pyrotechnic blast of sonic energy shot from it and ripped one of balconies from the wall in a devastating explosion"

Now people...

"Clashing chords like howls of ecstasy tore through a dozen mortals with an ear splitting concussion...victims thrashed helplessly as their bones snapped and heads exploded beneath the barrage of noise."

It is unknown how these weapons function specifically, but we do know how the Noise Marines produce these sonic attacks using their own bodies.

The currently infamous Fabius Bile was once the Chapter Apothecary for the Emperor's Children, he had plans to create the "perect Astartes", the overall dream of the Chapter. By using a recently defeated xenos enemy's certain internal parts which allowed it to create a devastating sonic attack, he would improve upon the organ, and replace the Astartes Betcher's Gland with it. Allowing the marine to produce not acid, but a pure wave of devasting sonic energy. His experiments were successful. He originally conducted his "frowned-upon work" under the protection of Fulgrim himself, performing his experiments on certain captains and commanders.

Hope this helped, I did not give away much of the story, there is PLENTY, and I mean PLENTLY more of the book that you don't know about, I'm sure.

This book really touched me after I read it and really though about it, it's a must read. Let me know if you want know anything else that I didn't expain in this reply.

IIRC The weapons were slightly enhanced when those with the mark of slaanesh (originally reducing initiative as the effect in game due to fluff) could vocalise the warp scream, much used by doom sirens to "scramble" the enemies vital organs, blastmasters worked off a heavy bass frequency, while sonic blasters had various frequencies depending on air density and the fine tuning of the firer (space marine enhanced senses, pimped by slaanesh).

Lots go into it, and I doubt they put a ton of thought into it like they did for Tau weaponry. You may have to study into it yourself and make up your own fiction for it.

Hmmm some good information, thanks.

Sonic weapons and Noise Marines have always caught my eye, but for some reason I have a hard time wrapping my mind around them. The other 3 Cult units are much easier to pin down.

I guess its my nerdy nature to want to try and figure out what makes them tick.
