WIP Demon Hunter Army & 2000pts army list

Recommended Posts

I'm back to 40K & DH after a while!

A year ago, I had to sold the best part of my previous DH army (almost pure GK), So I just Have a few models left.

Since then my Painting skill have increase, And I decide to have a go at modelling with Green-Stuff (not impressing stuff though...), so I decide to build an inquisitorial army (more varied and colourful than pure GK). To keep me going on modelling and painting I decide to open this thread...

I will need a much advice on painting, making the bases, as possible : so thanks in advance!

First lets began by the list (I include the list so that you have an idea of what is to come, it's not for comment!):

It will include 3 FW tank :

- 1GK Dread,

- 1GK LR Redeemer,

- & 1 LR Helios!

I don't play in tournament... so it should be alright to use them. in the worst case the Redeemer could easily count as LRC, and i could switch the armement on the Helios to transform it in regular LR.

HQ :

- GM (Psycanon, Mastercrafted NFW, Icone of the Just),

- & his retinue of 4GKT (2 w/ NFW & SB , 1 w/ TH & SS, 1 Psycanon/NFW)

- IL (Psycanon, Auspex, Targeter, Psychic Hood),

- & his retinue (1PC servitor, 1HB servitor, 1 mystic, 2 sages, 1 hierophant, 1 acolytes w/bolter & carapace armour)

Troops :

- 1 Justicar (frag, Auspex, Targeter), & 9 GK (1 Incinerator).

-6 IST (2PG)

-6 IST (2F)

-6 IST (2GL)

Fast Attack :

- 1 VSS (MB, PW, BoStL),

- 4 Seraphim (4MB, 2 Twin-Pistol-Flamers).

169pts

HS :

- GK LR Helios (Extra Armour)

- GK Dread (DCCW, TLLC, EA, SL, Incinerator)

- GK LR Redeemer (EA, SL)

What is bold in the list are the model I already posses.

Now let's begin with what really interesting : the pictures!

I will just put one picture per model in this thread, but more could be found in my gallery

First my Inquisitor Lord :

Based on Mephisto, with an added Psycanon (coming from a PAGK model + green stuff + bits)

gallery_42171_3174_707988.jpg

Then some acolytes :

gallery_42171_3174_78921.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_259209.jpg

You could see on the second one the begining of the work on the base. I will try to give an industrial aspect to all the IL squad: all tips (material, etc) appreciated!

HB & PC servitors :

gallery_42171_3174_80470.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_411453.jpg

My GM :

gallery_42171_3174_195091.jpg

This model has been strippaint in liquid-brake, and converted with various part + GS). I wanted him more aggressive in is appearance than the rest of is retinue (is NFW is made out of a power axe, is cape is made out of a WB chaos one, he is the only one to have batle mark...). His paint scheme will be black, not grey.

I want to model him a base suggesting he is using a psychic power/his FW... any hint on how too do so?

His retinue :

gallery_42171_3174_20293.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_60643.jpg

Those model are pretty much done, exept for the TH/SS one. They were models i had before, and kept (i was proud of them, and didn't want to give them away...). I just converted the TH/SS one without striping his paint (not sure i could match the color to the other again...). the TH is not finish yet.

The "count as" Seraphim VSS :

gallery_42171_3174_488039.jpg

The "seraphim" will be composed of this guy (a head hunter - always wanted a "bubafeet" type of mini/character - working for my IL) + 4 servoskulls on jump-pack... lot of work to do...

That's all for now!

If your arrived here thanks for your patience!

Waiting for your suggestions!

Tchezz.

always wanted a "bubafeet" type of mini/character - working for my IL)

epic fail on that, its Boba Fett.

Anywho, I think that your army is coming out really well so far. While I personally like the SoB seraphim models, I cant wait to see what you are going to do as a substitute for them.

Keep up the great work!

BLARGAG!!!

Thanks for the encouragement and correcting me (i'm not a natural-english-speaker, so i spell his name as it "sound"... from now on i got no excuse!).

You will see them soon, but probably after a few of the other minis painted : my skill with GS are pretty basics, and i've redone my "seraphim" several time already without any satisfying success.

  • 4 weeks later...

GM :

gallery_42171_3174_265408.jpg

I would like to make him stand on a base who sugest him using a psychic-power/force weapon... but i have a lack of ideas!

Here is a potential base for him:

gallery_42171_3174_376259.jpg

and him on top :

gallery_42171_3174_11047.jpg

What do you think? Any suggestion?

More pics can be seen here :

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p..._key=*&st=0

Next will be some more assassins, an Inq LR, a FW GKDread and a FW GK LRRedeemer!

PS: Thanks for the comment Number6! It's no really free-hand on the base : I use a modeling knife after painting the base to chip into it, and then do some "extreme-hi-lightning".

  • 1 month later...

Quite a long time without any progress!

Thats why I've enlisted in COI III!

I'm trying to convert & paint a GK Dread and a GK LR Redeemer. Here are the first progress on my Dread :

gallery_42171_3174_860690.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_686061.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_753093.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_56578.jpg

I still have a lot of work to do on this guy :

-the arms are not finished to model yet,

-I'll work on a second pair of arms (LC/DCCW) from FW (as soon as I received them),

-I need to put some battle damages and mud on the body, + more highlighting + washes...

But at the moment I'm waiting for some Vallejo paint and citadel wash that I've order 2weeks ago!!! So my painting progress are pretty null at the moment!

Nothing interesting is done on the LR yet, but here is a little teaser : IF, and only WHEN, I complet the Call, I will allow myself to paint my GK Justicar Techmarine (will just count as a normal Justicar).

Here are some pics of my progress on this conversion so far :

gallery_42171_3174_72296.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_554892.jpg.

He is far from finish, but it give you a good Idea of what He'll look like.

All in all my army will have 3 PAGK squads, and each of the Justicar will be given a special task (one "techmarine" in charge of tending/repairing Dread and LRs, one "apothecary" in charge of the health and gene seeds, and one "chaplain" in charge of the spirit of the group).

Each of them will be a little treat for me to paint when I make a significative advance in the painting of my DH army.

And one more thing for today's update : some more progress on my GM!

-The cape is finish with some freehand added :

gallery_42171_3174_231005.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_801412.jpg

-The front part of the banner is done (waiting on some "latin" transcription of the 666s verses to put on the back) :

gallery_42171_3174_219984.jpg.

Hope you like it! all comments are welcome! any idea on how to improve anything is MORE THAN WELCOME (I mean, come on : more than 400 people look at this topic, and only 3 comments! I'm far from Golden demon standard, surely some of you could help me improve my skills,no?).

As usual more views could be seen in my album (see my signature).

Thanks, Tchezz.

  • 1 month later...

Nice! And welcome back to the DH!

I´ve had the same thought about painting the joints blue on the GKs (even have all the paints but my WE and TK take alot of time :D), and finally seing a real product just makes me wanna skip all the rest and start on the GKs :D

...ouh and I love the, Redeemer and the Vindicare! They got more then just painting skills on em if u know what I mean!

  • 1 year later...

I'm the slowest painter in the world, but I still hope to complete my colection before the new Plastic GK came around!

Here are some of my progress so far :

-Out of the box, whith just a bit of modification to add some variety :

gallery_42171_3174_872465.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_948028.jpg

-My Homemade babies (I'm even a slowest "modeler" than painter... it took me 6 month!):

gallery_42171_3174_1285711.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_253728.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_1113118.jpg

And what still to do :

gallery_42171_3174_119436.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_708857.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_668140.jpg

gallery_42171_3174_265428.jpg

During the time I began this Thread, I did paint 2 other GK Dread (From FW - a regular one and a Chappy) and two Landraiders!

I fear That In the near future I will have to paint 2 Storm raven, 2 DreadKnight, 2 plastic GK Squad, and a few paladins...

GW may be slow to update codexess, but it seem they are faster than me! this army/thread will see no end! lol

As usual i'm waiting for your comment to improve my painting, and support to keep me going!

Thank you for the time spending looking at the minis.

Tchezz.

Tchezzarus:

That GM is absolutely amazing...! I love the look of that model. :D

(When I first started this project, those 4 guys where just regular justicar for my 4 PAGK squads... I was willing to represent a crusade launch so far in the galaxy/warp, that my force will have to relly only on itself...

so the first one was the master of arms, 2nd and 3rd are pretty explicit, 4th was a chaplain - Now I'm not even sure I'll use them... will have to see the new dex!!!)

-The last of my homemade PAGK

Still to do :

Uriah Jacobus, Gideon Lor, 3 DCA, 2 Arcos, another Vindicare, a Calidus, an Eversor, Coteaz, Kirinov, The Inquisitor w/ Inferno pistol & PW (lor lookalike)!!!

I don't think that I'll be able to finish them before I recieve my preodrder of GK, but I'll do my best!

C&C wanted!

Some solid work, especially with the GKs.

Here are a few recommendations.

- Crop your pictures and reduce their pixel size to a max of 700x(X) (a 700 pixel max horizontally and/or vertically on either side). It will ease the ability of viewers to look through your work.

- Your highlighting is solid, which brings the colors up, but leaves the lower areas without definition. This can create a false effect of the models seeming "bright", where the colors are over accentuated. Use watered down washes (with a very very small amount of dish soap) in appropriate places to create definition by darkening recesses and toning down highlights. I'ts a skill that may take a few models to get right, but the real key is just making sure the wash is evenly distributed in the appropriate areas and doesn't pool to create rings.

- Water down your paints. It is clear you are fairly capable of doing good detail work, but the low water content will leave paints thick and "chunky". This is what has created the blocky effect on some of your smaller models where extensive detail is present. Lightly watering your pots will smooth their paints and the effects they create on the models. It is even better if you put (again) a very very small amount of dish soap in your water cup to break the surface tension as you clean brushes.

- When you take up paint into the brush it should only be at the very tip, and you want to clear any excess from your brush on a wet pad, paper towel, cardboard, etc . . . before you use it on the model. This may seem tedious, but will again reduce the blocky effect on minute details by giving you much greater control over how much paint goes on the model and where it is placed.

Hope some of this helps. Good luck, I know from experience that these are not easy models to paint.
