More than two CCWs

I'm fielding some scouts led by a Wolf Guard and the WG is equipped with a thunder hammer, bolt pistol and CCW. I know that this is legal in the SW codex, but is it still legal in 5th edition and how is it played?

 

The rules don't specifically prohibit more than two CCWs, though you don't get any bonuses (p37 BBB, second bullet). But neither is there a provision that states that you have to declare what you're using.

 

I'm asking because on p42 it states that as long as you have a thunder hammer, you don't get the extra attack for having two CCWs. Can I declare that I'm not using the thunder hammer, but the pistol/CCW instead?

As for legality in using, its questionable.

 

Most people seem to play its legal to chose which you are using, either the extra attack with no bonus or the hammer. As an example look at Marneus Calgar in the new Marine dex. 2 power fists and a power weapon. Or a BA chaplain with Crozius, pistol and power fist. Is Calgar stuck without his extra power fist attack because he has the power weapon added on?

Right in there bud, on the Armory Page (14), says you can have either 2 One-handed weapons or 1 two-handed weapon and 1 one-handed weapon. The only exception is WGBG, who can have a Storm Bolter in addition to their Heavy Weapon (excellent for CMLS WG).

Its not questionable... we cant make it happen. As Bran said a space wolf can currently only have a total of 2 weapons, as explained on the armory page. This is somewhat mitigated by the fact that we have a huge choice in what those weapons will be... but still, the number shall be two at most.

Ah, another set of confusion over our codex and the newer ones. Listen, and listen good whelps!

 

In our Codex, a character selecting weaponry from the armoury is limited to EITHER 1 two handed weapon AND 1 one handed weapon OR 2 one handed weapons. These can be any combination, but no more than 2 weapons!

 

In contrast, more recent Codices have got rid of this - a noteworthy feature being that a DA Company Master can take 2 Lightning Claws, a Plasma Pistol and a Storm Bolter. Of course, that model must be pretty damn well converted. Presumably they have better balance than us.

Nah, just not the sense to keep from being loaded down by unnessecairies like ranged weapons ;).

 

I don't know, there is a certain appeal to being able to use a Storm Bolter on T1, a plasma shot next shooting phase then assault them, preferably with a Frostblade and not a pair of LC's, but nevermind.

 

Russ know I've had 10 years to read my codex ... guess I've been away too long.

 

I shouldn't worry, there's been a lot of changes over the last 2/3 years. Most of which have confused even the Longest of Fangs here. :unsure:
