Josephus
so i've been a fan of WH40k for years, i love the art, the models, the scenery, the whole concept and have read several codex's and 4th and 5th e rule books. recently i've decided to build an army and after much deliberation i settled on Chaos, the fluff is great and schemes are menacing. i've put togethor a squad of metal raptors from 1996 (found them at yard sale for 3 bucks.. with ALL THE SPRUES!) and have then bought the 10 marine box. i undertand how the icons work in that all units in the squad receive the mark of whatever god the icon is of. i know chaos glory allows you to re roll for courage checks, and do other icons allows this in addition to their gift from the god? also, i've seen some units modeled with the icons in their back packs rather than someone holding them? is this alright/a good idea? what exactly is a personal icon and what does it look like. and how are marks of K/S/T/N supposed to be indicated on units? i need answers to these questions so i can put together my slightly fluffy squad because the aspiring champ is like a black legion convert but still retains a shoulder pad like the one khorne beserkers have and i would give him the khorne helmet. I'd just use the normal god Icon for that troop type (Berserkers with Icon of Khorne). It does NOT give them the bonus though. 4) Icons are the best way to show it for a Unit, for individual models, I'd think color coding, marking on their shoulderpads, a back banner, things of that sort. Josephus
thanks for the speedy reply, im gluing right now. who's back do you suggest i put the icon on? i kinda like the idea of putting on the champs back and leading men ferociously into battle under the sigil of the blood god and all the romanticized stuff, but is that practical? he current equipment is a force sword and Plasma Pistol. By Force sword you mean a Power sword? Remember only Sorcerers (who Khorne hates) can take Force Weapons. You could give the unit a backbanner, kind of like a japanese samurai banner, alot of people like that. Often its not a great idea to have your Champion holding the icon, because if you lose your Champion, you lose both the close combat power AND the icon's power. Besides the Champion should be free to kill things, not holding a flag. ;) Having said that, you could chop off most of the pole and attach the rest to the top of his backpack, probably with some additional support (just use 1-2 long pieces of the sprue to secure it). Ace of Gods
My icons never go on the champion, due to the fact that i never know which one is gonna be sacrificed for the Greater demons if hes in the army. I place the icons on another member in the group, usually with no special weapons on him. Josephus
i found a chainaxe left over from my raptors so i thought that it was extremely fitting that the icon guy got it, i also got a little creative with some of the trophies and even modded a chainsword onto a bolter as a bayonet, ill get pictures up when i can. i did the math and if i add this force to my raptors i got exactly 400 points for a Combat Patrol! eyescrossed
Wait - you gave a normal CSM unit MoK? Waste of points :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160500-noob-questions-about-csm-troops/#findComment-1886035 Share on other sites
Josephus
crap, really? well its just plastic i can swap the icon out in a minute, but then whats the logic of this: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1252598_99120102019_CSMSqdmain_445x319.jpg ann who did you think i was giving the icon too? a group of zerkers? and if it was zerkers, then don't they already have the mark of khorne, their whole existence is pretty much dedicated to him so wouldn't a IoK be redundant? eyescrossed
...Berzerkers can't have the IoK... EDIT: And it's not really redundant, it's just not worth it, really - you might as well take Berzerkers instead.
