Hello

This is second part of this post

i was askin for blood angels colour scheme.

I painted this two guys with different schemes. First one ( rised bolter ) with black undecorate then mechrite red followed by devland mud wash and the a few layers of blood red and blazing orange highlights.

Second one is white undecorate then blood red, devland mud wash and few layers of blood red with blazing orange highlights. They look almost the same. I thought the black prime one would be much darker but i guess I put to much layers of blood red to see the difference. I have to admit that highlights are better visible in real. How do you like them ? any advices ?

wow, this is really great because i've been researching how to paint some BA's. My friend is starting an army and i've volunteered to paint his marines for him (i cringe at the thought of all those bad paint jobs that could be avoided) but i kinda crapped myself when he said he wanted blood angels because i've heard the horror stories of 10 to 15 coats.

anyways, i gotta say i like the second one only tiny bit more but im wondering how much of a pain it is to get all those really awful areas with black paint like up under the shoulder pads or how to get the red in places like the lower torso where the arms/bolter is usually blocking. Do you paint them dissembled? and where could i find out more about that?

Red is indeed hard to paint. Well, it all depends what kind of red you want to get. My test blood angels are almost the same because of many coats. Black undecorate will obviously make your red mor dark and brown. If you want get them painted fast use white undecorate, its much easier to paint red on it. I simply spraypainted them white, then painted all soft armor links and the deepest recesses black. Then whole armor blood red, devland mud wash in the recesses which are not so deep but still need shading. And clean up any mistakes with blood red. Highlights, final touches.

I usually glue legs, torso and bagpack together. Arms, bolter, head and shoulderpads are much easier to paint spearately.

Eg. You can visit jawaballs site, http://warhammer40kbloodangels.blogspot.com/ i know he did how to paint BA tutorial some time ago. Blogs and this site are good source of knowledge for any SM player <_<

im definitely seeing the time benefits, and i guess if my friend gets really good quality units i would probably take the time and use the black undercoat method with he mechrite red and give it lots of coast of blood red. Now I read somewhere that the Aquila symbol is painted yellow and so are the helmets of assault squads i think? anyways, i was was wondering what techniques you could use to a get a good yellow from a dark undercoat and a light undercoat.
