Combat_Vet
Greets, First, let me start by saying I'm sorry I post so many questions. The input from here has increased my skills 100%. So, I'll continue to ask questions until I'm asked to stop. With that out of the way -_- I'm building a Rune Priest (no pictures though). A couple of questions came to mind: 1) with onlt "storm caller" as a power, are Rune Priests worth taking? 2) I'm going to try to GS some runes on the armor. Should I stick to FUTHARK or should I use random "stick" letters? 3) gear suggestions? Better days, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160704-rune-priest/ Share on other sites
Yeti
In any game over 1000 points, I never leave home without him. Stormcaller is more than worth it and leading a pack of Blood claws, it kicks all kinds of butt. As far as equipment goes, concentrate on CC. My own setup is a Frost Weapon, Storm Shield, Frags & Chooser of the slain. Reasonable price, can more than hold his own in CC AND messes with infiltration. As for modeling runes, once you get through with FUTHARK, you'll be lucky to still have room on the armor ... but any kind of stick letters will do fine. Vash113
1) with onlt "storm caller" as a power, are Rune Priests worth taking? Storm Caller is incredibly usefull so yes they are worth taking. 2) I'm going to try to GS some runes on the armor. Should I stick to FUTHARK or should I use random "stick" letters? I nab runes from the SW Codex, the Anulus stone in the back has a ton to choose from for inspiration. 3) gear suggestions? I like a Rune Weapon, Storm Bolter, Chooser of the Slain and Terminator Armor to give him an extra attack, a ranged weapon if he doesn't have to use Storm Caller and the Terminator Armor gives him a good save and an invulnerable save. Plus the wolfy stuff, Wolf Pelt, Wolf Tooth Necklace etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160704-rune-priest/#findComment-1885659 Share on other sites
WG Vrox
Rune Priest SS/FB on a Bike following a LRC, full of blood claws to the front lines casting storm on it the whole way thats the way to roll my wolf brother. 170 point HQ but lots of fun. Spacefrisian
I run mine very Cheap. Frostblade, boltpistol, frags, wolfpelt, wolftail, Chooser of the slain. He never dissapointed me. Annoying Infiltrators, providing coversave. But his greatest feats are in cc. He eats nids for breakfast. Grey Mage
I prefer FUTHARK runes myself... but its your model, do as you like. After all they could use the younger futhark, danish, etc.... *shrugs*. Not to mention its been about 39k years since those languages were truely used in that manner... who knows whats happened? As for the Runepriest with LD 9 I dont think hes worth much as a psycher for protection.... if you can get a solid ruling on how stormcaller works then hes probly worth it now and again. Chooser of the Slain is also pretty nifty. Personally though Im a little stuck on my vendread and WGBL's... if I get the option to take another HQ I then usually run a wolfpriest.... and then Runepriest vies for fourth position with a wolf lord. So needless to say they dont see a whole lot of playtime. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160704-rune-priest/#findComment-1886100 Share on other sites
Ullr Direfang
i hate to say it but i have only really used my rune priest only two or three times. i don't know i don't see snow flurries as a potent psyker. i also don't really like spending the points for the rune staff and rune weapon when i am looking for a good hq. though i have to say once i get him painted i plan to cover his weapon and armor in the futhark runes. Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i always use a rune priest. he carries a frost blade, rune staff, chooser of the slain, termie armor, wolf tooth necklace. he is a potent fighter, the rune staff helps me against the multiple "lash" armies that i seem to fight against, chooser of the slain helps me protect my rear from infiltraters and outflankers. then his storm caller ability gives him or a nearby unit a cover save (or in the case of my terminators, always count as being in cover for the high I attackers) i seriously have to check my head if i dont think of taking him. wolf lord kieran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160704-rune-priest/#findComment-1886132 Share on other sites
kapturowski
Since I mostly play against Eldar i tend to bring a Rune Priest with a Frost Blade and a Rune Staff. I'll usually put him in a pack of Blood Claws where he performs very well. The LD 9 is a bit of a dissapointment though. GunnarRedsun
personally i usually only use my rune priest when i know i'll see infiltrators (like kroot or scouts), or when i need to eat up like 10 or 20 points (dif between mine and my wgbl). i don't usually use the force weapon, but do use the rune staff and chooser. Grey Mage
Yeah that site has some really good information on runes, their meanings, and some good uses for them. Theres even a page on bindrunes.... including the helm of awe. Id like to see someone paint that on a SW helmet someday. Its beyond my ablities.
