jester_prince
Simple Power Sword, I dont think anything else really suits it. Relic Blades are two handed and he also needs to be able to weild a storm bolter. Alys Dwr
All in all a very nice army and i can't wait to see it finished. The commander's wrist mounted blade does look fantasic but i think the scabbard now looks a little out of place. jester_prince
Scabard for his knife which is still in it, for when the storm bolter is too bulky and an extra blade just might give him an advantage, nothing game rules wise but standard equipment for all marines is apparently a knife and bolt pistol... Even though theres only like 2 models in the entire range that have both plus whatever equipment they need. I need suggestions for a standard bearer, as i feel waving a banner kinda ruins the point of a covert strike force... however I might just skip it but I dont know how useful company banners are never used one in a game properly. jester_prince
Update, painted these all today, very happy, especially considering it normally takes me forever to finish a single guy. Like the rest of my army I wanted grimmey and dirty. I wanted the apothecary to look like he does his job, so I wanted splatterd blood, without the cheesiness, I actually found a great example, in dawn of war 2 apothecary, so I tried to recreate that paint scheme. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/29032009039.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/29032009038.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160820-iron-hawks/page/2/#findComment-1934387 Share on other sites

jester_prince
One combat squad from my devs finished, and I rewarded myself by painting another character from the command squad. Though I have come to realise that I have missed bits in the wash stage so i shall go over and redo that. Command Squad http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/22042009054.jpg Dev Squad http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/22042009062.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/22042009056.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/22042009058.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/22042009064.jpg Now I had a little problem with my matt varnish on this batch, it went all frosty and crackled and I cant explain why, it was a nice sunny warm day and id shaken the car for ages, and to my horror I applyed the varnish and it went frosty and crackled. Ive done my best to fix this but I have thrown out my varnish and I doubt ill get anymore. The rest of my army looks fine with it however I dont fancy risking any more minis. Twin .44
all in all, very not bad sir. I dig the gritty color schemes on these guys. It truly suits them. ShinyRhino
Looking good. In regards to the crackled varnish, you can often fix the affected models by hitting them with a light coat of gloss varnish, allowing to dry, then reapplying a dullcoat to take the shine back down. Dark Sensei
I like your medic very very much. Colour and pose are just great. Therefore, the chainsaw and bolt pistol give too much importance to the right part of the mini, I'd prefer a little side-arm (kinda like a colt 1911 or DE-like) less marine in spirit but obviously more adapted to a medic in fighting situation) and the bolter left on the floor of even better, hanging from the shoulder. About the blood, I think that he should have some on the left arm (narcetium) AND the right hand (give a look at all illustrations way from RT, you'll understand the logic of it). jester_prince
Cheers for the comments, ill try improve the blood, i did have more originaly but it ended up looking like chicken pox, ill give it another shot though. Okay small update, Ive gone and shelled out for a thunderfire cannon, I also went and baught myself an iron hands tac squad to convert into Sternguard Vets. I really wanted them to look like they have been in a battle and what batter then bionics to show a grizzly Vet. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/25042009070.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/25042009071.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/25042009072.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160820-iron-hawks/page/2/#findComment-1966985 Share on other sites
jester_prince
Okay with my printer and a genral lack of transfer paper left I decided that the best way for me to get my nose art onto the thunderhawk would be to try my first ever free hand. I am fairly good at drawing and painting models buit when it comes to painting freehand i just cant get the control i want with a brush. But heres my first attemp. Its only 2cm by 2.5 cm in reality so the image appears larger then life. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/28042009073.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/thunderhawklucyactualsize.jpg The thunderhawk is making slow progress, but I have atleast found another engine and the weapon mounts, and i have possibly scrounged some langing gear so progress is being made even if it hadnt for a long while. sgtNACHO
Whoa! That Chapter Master looks alot cooler now in my opinion!! Artificer I'm guessing, right? He went from a tricked out looking Tactical Sergeant, to a walking tank! I'd rather wear what he's rolling then any old TDA!! Thats seriously cool looking! jester_prince
:D Yeah It is Artificer armour for the modern Marine, when ornate armour will get you shot. I think i may repaint him, anyone suggest any way of stripping him that wont damage any of the greenstuff work or glue? Im forever a self critic, plus hes a focal point of my army so he needs to be good. Heres my "chaplain"... more of an Iron Father I think but it sutes my army better then a standard chaplain i think. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/chaplain2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160820-iron-hawks/page/2/#findComment-2195405 Share on other sites
khalaek
wow... i've been stalking around here for a little while now after being gone for a long time, but i couldn't resist commenting on this. first, i love the color scheme. very clean, very intentional. soooo many people try to camo their marines and it doesn't work. yours WORKS. question though: why does an Astartes Chapter that specializes in cityfighting have assault marines? not that they can't be useful in urban warfare, but the general rule is bulky=bad. hard to get through doors. just something to consider. way to go though, seriously. looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!!! Commander Sha'son
Glad to see you back... I say dont strip him down... If you want to update and revise him further... you have an opportunity to do so now... That way you can measure your progress from model to model... jester_prince
question though: why does an Astartes Chapter that specializes in cityfighting have assault marines? not that they can't be useful in urban warfare, but the general rule is bulky=bad. hard to get through doors. just something to consider. I figure there is no better way to create an ambush then a bunh of marines that can hide behind a ruin, launch themselves over it and land ontop of the enemy within seconds. Plus I see them as hit and run army, so mobility is needed, but rhinos an razor backs are less useful in a city enviroment. Mostly fluff reasons but I think it kinda makes sense. Plus I just love Assault marines, i think there is nothing cooler then a guy who straps a jet to his back and launches himself at the enemy with a sword, they have to be even slightly unhinged to want to do that. Glad to see you back... I say dont strip him down... If you want to update and revise him further... you have an opportunity to do so now... That way you can measure your progress from model to model... I would rebuild him, unfortunatly I dont have any of the parts I would like to remake him, so stripping him down is one of my few options if i want to repaint him a little better. I re-wrote a bit of fluff for the army still wip but might help explain my chapter organisation. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...p;#entry2171714 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160820-iron-hawks/page/2/#findComment-2195748 Share on other sites
jester_prince
Once again, i am remodeling my chapter commander. I was not happy with the final pose of my 2nd try. After a long time stareing at him I began to feel that he didnt have enough movment in his pose. Call me a perfectionist or just obsessive. Also after a few attempts to repaint him i think the model was loseing its edge ( i stripped it each time but i think it effected the greenstuff slightly). This time however I started from the ground up, I built him up around the thighs, gave one thigh a bionic. The storm bolter is two bolt pistols green stuffed together. I also switched the bionic eyes to the other side of the face simply because i felt it looked better. Mounting the storm bolter onto the wrist however meant I had no place to mount the auxilery granade launcher. So I sliced a scout binocs in half and mounted it ontop of the jump pack, I may over swap this out for a small version of tank smoke launchers. The base needs sand, some minour green stuff work here and there and i think he will be read for some paint. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/ironhawks-1.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/ilivefordeath/ironhawks2-1.jpg My green stuff fu is still not great but id like to think im learning something new every time I try it. I still have the original model to fall back on if i screw this up so nothing lost but my time. anyway im lined up against the fireing wall, shoot thouse comments at me. Justicar Valius
New commander :tu: Rest of army :tu: Thunderhwak :cuss Freehand :P  I spend a lot of time in the ordos inquisition (play pure DH with lots of grey knights like you) forum so I love this Just one thing, drill out gun barrels, everyone forgets it everyone says it looks bad.
