Scout Sniper
Here is my first truescale marine, I have now made some more but have only just got around to posting this. CC welcome about the modelling (the feet are huge) http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/ww270/miskellybones/DSCF0631.jpg the marine in question he will look better painted. http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/ww270/miskellybones/DSCF0632.jpg for comparison Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160907-truescale-marines/ Share on other sites
Brother_Beork
Sorry, but unless you are trying to represent his greaves being al stuck up with mud or him wearing furry boots, it is not going to look better with paint. You might just want to file/sand the milliput (I think it is milliput at least) smooth before painting. I also think you could do more than just adding different legs (at least that is what it looks like, chaos warrior legs with a lot of putty) like broadening the chest and arms to proportion, lengthening everything to proportion etc. Hey, you asked for C&C ;P Beork Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160907-truescale-marines/#findComment-1888962 Share on other sites
Alys Dwr
Not too bad for a first attempt as we can see what you were aiming for. His greaves are quite messy but that would be easy to fix with a file and some patience. At the moment he looks more in proportion for a tall human, definately needs more bulk. Larger shoulder pads would be a simple way of acieving this: slightly modified terminator pads are my first though. Looking at the first picture, would you be able to give us a picture of his back? I can't quite tell but his waist looks odd and it would be easier to give you some feedback if we could see it without his bolter in the way. Don't feel disheartened, keep it up and with practice you'll be doing great models in no time. ^_^ Al Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160907-truescale-marines/#findComment-1888973 Share on other sites
sarabando
looka like your working with millieput right? if so try using a little less putty and when you have the shape you want but its still rough use a brush and some water and smooth it out but beware as millieput is like clay with water so you may get messy  GL Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160907-truescale-marines/#findComment-1889460 Share on other sites
Scout Sniper
Thanks for the input. BTW it did look better after painting, I'll have pictures up once it dries. Hopefully I will get better as time goes on as this was my first time scuplting anything ever (well any miniature). Quote At the moment he looks more in proportion for a tall human, definately needs more bulk. In answer to this the whole doghouse method is meant to be relatively easy and simple to do. Plus now they look like my concept art, I draw tall marines. Scout Sniper
hey he's painted! http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/ww270/miskellybones/DSCF06362.jpg here is the original sketch I did by the way. http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/ww270/miskellybones/02-21-12.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160907-truescale-marines/#findComment-1892110 Share on other sites
Shortsonfire79
Wow dude, that art is fantastic! And he does look better with paint, but it still throws in the "tall Space Marine" card. Looks good for a first, but maybe next time, you could use terminator arms, as they're bulkier, and represent "true scale" more. Starks333
im just gonna be honest like the rest....the sculpt work is rough, and quite terrible...why bother posting stuff if you dont even take it seriously enough to put some effort in? no insult intended, but seriously Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/160907-truescale-marines/#findComment-1892208 Share on other sites
Hubernator
I'm inclined to agree. It needed lots more work at the base of the legs, looks bumpy and mis-shaped. The paintjob is pretty good, though the gun could do with some attention. Spacefrisian
It doesn't look nice, you should realy take the advice given here. Or if you don't wanna do that you could always make it a deathguard model. Scout Sniper
I do need to do some work, the advice is a big help. This is just a test, done quickly, the next will be much better. Besides, I only want them tabletop quality, and they were never going to be amazing as this is my first ever sculpting project. By the way I was thinking of cleaning up and inking the art (it's justa sketch right now) think it'll be any good? Scout Sniper
I inked in the artwork, tidied it up a bit. Here it is: http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/ww270/miskellybones/spacemarineink.jpg I'll finish inking it soon. Kuchinawa
I like 'em High Five  Don't let these dudes get ya down. If you like 'em that's what really matters. I'd kind like to see a 2nd go at this idea, and/or maybe just tidy up the painting. Nothing huge, just eyes and silver parts you know. GhostLegion
though i have to agree that the sculpt needs work I will say at least you finished a sculpt you started. the only way to improve your sculpting is to finish what you start...lord knows i have a lot of unfinished work i will never post!! still...take what you have learned from this and try another. eventually you will get it how you want.
