Ahh...memories....

I've got to narrow it down to two moments of triumph against all odds for my wolves, both of course coming in apocalypse games.

The first was Ragnar's most brilliant moment for me. He and a squad of bloodclaws were heading up the far right flank of the table towards a tac squad of space marines dug in and holding an objective. they charge in but the remaining tac marines manage to pass their morale check and hold firm. Ragnar then gets counter attacked by a pair of assault squads and a team of ork commandos (the nob and all assault marine sgt's armed with power fists/klaws). In a greuling fit of hand to hand combat, the end of the game came 3 full turns later with Ragnar still standing (with one wound left), while the entire squad of bloodclaws was killed, as well as all the orks, the entire tac squad and also one and a half squads of assault marines laying dead. I think in those 7 rounds of assault ragnar came away with something like 24 kills.....god that was a thing of beauty. Never underestimate the lightning reflexes of a wolf lord :tu:

The next moment of glory came in a very very large game of apoc versus several combined forces, my wolves holding the middle against just about everything they could throw at me. For the most part it turned into a defensive action as my teammates (unchosen by me, go go GW stores) were incompetent and got themselves mostly chewed apart very quickly, only having enough units to hold and defends the objectives near them. However, the enemy managed to wrest one away with a massive wave of genestealers in the 2nd to last turn (which, was only turn 2 lol). In a desperate gamble, and knowing what the 'nid player had coming, i used my flank march asset to march in a wolf lord surrounded by a retinue of 10 termies and cleared off the objective sitting in the back of their deployment zone. As expected, the nid counter attack was fierce, with something like 40 gaunts and an entire myetic assault force of 12 (yes, TWELVE) carnifexes charging into the resolute wolves. In a do or die moment, the wolves took out a drove of gaunts to up the kill count, and then felled 3 of the monstrous creatures. In the end the wolves won combat, and the lord was standing as well as two of the remaining wolf guard, contesting the objective and eeking out a draw for the game. A hard fought moral victory out of that draw!

Both of these were in 4th ed, as you may have noticed. Not enough games for true glory so far in 5th ....

Ughh the greatest battle may be their worst.. It was in the late days of October during a large apocalypse game consisting of about 20000 points all told with 2500 points per person. The wolves were lead by Wulfen Lord Branmaw the quick and his warband of grey slayers. unfortunatly the nefarious eldars decided that among them it would be the space wolves who would hold the line yes among 10000 points the 13th company warband of only 40 were expected to hold the line and numerous objectives against the forces of chaos, traitorious guard, orks, and guard.

among the enemy were kharne the betrayer, lucius the eternal, typhus the host (or whatever his name is) Ghazkull Thraka, a warhound, 15+ Oblitertors, 5 daemon princes of which 3 were lash. all in all my wolves were tragically outnumbered and out gunned by large amounts. with the nefarious eldar refusing to show up on the battle on time as well as not revealing their orbital bombardments which could have turn the tide of battle they all deployed haphazardly.

among the wolves were 4 squads of grey slayers, 2 rune priests, a wolf priest and a pack of wulfen, fenrisians wolves, and wulfen lord branmaw and his retinue of storm claw bikers perched high above the city was the long fang pack asgard armed with my lascannon. among these heroes was yarrick on board the Pride of Leman, a noble baneblade on loan from a gracious imperial guard garrison near fenris.

through out the mighty battle 2 chimeras were blasted halting the imperial guard column advancing through a narrow gorge, while branmaw and his retinue did battle with kharne resulting in the betrayer being sent screaming into the warp while the wulfen and the wolf priest were lashed towards lucius who in his turn was sent screaming back into the warp himself the wolves held strong but against so much they could only stand so long as they preformed suicide attacks against the green tide as the rune priests gated warriors to the flanks of the tide and dispatched many of the orks with flamer and bolter. the pride of leman opened its main cannon upon the orks as well killing 27.

before being felled himself branmaw dispatched kharne, 2 greater daemons, 3 daemon princes and numerous lesser daemons

in the end the eldar failed to have much of an impact upon the battle except for crushing typhus.

althought he wolves were defeated and their leader slain they emerged relativly strong and still standing.

My greatest moment was playing against necrons back in the end of 3rd, maybe beginning of 4th o.O First turn saw me take down his monolith with a single shot from my vindicator. That prevented 2 of his troops from even hitting the board. His first turn his Lord Veil of Darknessed an entire squad on top of the vindy that killed the monolith and wiped that group out. Due to his unsound tactic of using large necron troop blocks of 20, we didn't play a second turn as he phased out right then an there XD.
Well, I married a dark angel player.... :D

oi, i got another one. I was playing grey knights (one of my more regular foes). knowing what my blood claws would do, he concentrated fire on them. still, 5 and the wolf guard battle leader (alric) got into combat with them and his grandmaster. his grandmaster laid waste to the squad, but not to Alric, who in return killed the whole unit, including grandmaster. it was a thing of beauty i tell you. the look on his face, as my wolf guard battle leader with his 7 attacks eating his 5 models was just priceless. any wolf, thought y'all may want to hear about it. oh, and after that, he proceeded to eat 2 squads of grey knights, taking one wound. it was a good day...a very good day.

Last round at a tournemant. The mission was a version of Yarick's last stand mission, found in the back of the rulebook. The only difference was that also troops where allowed to kill him. I had 1 WGBL with SS, FB and WP (who has the character my opponents would have to kill), a WP with WP, 11 BC with 3 PF's and a flamer, 9 GH with 2 PF, 2 PP, 1 PG and 6 Bolters and a Rhino (joined by the WP), 9 GH with 2 PW, 2 PP, 1 PG, 4 Bolters, in a Rhino with a WGL with PF, Bolter and WP, a Vindy and a whirlwind, and 2 Attack bikes with a multi-melta.

The enemy was a Salamander force, led by Vulkan Hes'tan (who'm i had to kill), 2 units of 5 termies, 1 dreadnought, unit of 5 scouts, and 3 or 4 tactical sqads.

First turn he blew up my Vindy and my Whirlwind. Didn't matter to me, cause i raced to Hes'tan. First me WGBL with the BC went in CC with Hes'tan and his terminator squad. Through good placement, i had made sure that my WGBL and Hes'tan where in combat, and that no other model could get in combat. After 2 Rounds, my BC where dead, i had infilcted one wound on Hes'tan (he had infilcited none on mine), and i ran. He decided not to move the next turn.

My WGBL rallied, charged, allongside my WP and GH squad. After 3 or 4 rounds, Hes'tan was dead, and my WGBL hadn't even been scratched.

of the 12 Players there, i was the only one to actually achieve victory. I became 5th place, but the organiser told me that if i would have painted my army (which i'm working really hard on now :D), i would have at least come in at 2nd place :D

But it was a good day for the Sons of Russ!

wolf guard battle leader with his 7 attacks

7 ? 2 profile , 1 for True grit assume , 1 for charging , then the rest ?

4 in profile, 1 for countercharge, 1 for additional CCW, 1 for Wolf Pelt =7

Our ICs are getting more attacks by taking the charge then by charging themself.

A pack of Grey Hunters assaulted and, well Russ was not with them. They fell, all but one, a mighty powerfist Hunter! He made a tactical retreat, ended up weathering multiple barrages of fire, and going on to destroy multiple vehicles all by himself! Now he's a Wolf Guard with a powerfist, :o

Multiplayer battle, 4vs 4 (4th edition).

round 1, my runepriest casts stormcaller on his grey hunters, even though they're entrenched in a forest (just in case, ya'know). Sure enough, the worthless treacherous Chaos scum move their marines and a close combat lashprince closeby, move them out of the woods in a (for everyone else) hopelessly impractical spread-out formation, then proceed to assault them. The look on his face when I said "hold on, before you start rolling dice, I get to counterassault. Oh yeah, and I still count as being in cover, so I go first" was priceless. That one unit then proceeded to munch up most of the Chaos army.

Slightly later in the same game, the Dark Eldar try something similar (model-placement in combat-wise, that is) and fall prey to my blood claws' and wolf priest's umpteen attacks.

The game was eventually won by the Imperial Guard who moved in and took the objective at the end after I'd destroyed all the dangerous evil stuff.

WGBL = 2 attacks

Wolf Lord = 4 attacks...

So was it a Lord?

Both the Lord and the WGBL have 4 attacks. The only difference is that the WGBL has one less wound and LD.

As for fun times, a rhino of mine once rammed a whirlwind to death. Move full 12", whirlwind received a str 6 hit, rolled a 6 for penetration and a 6 on damage table. You should have seen my opponent's face :).
