Brother Azeek
Ok so i started this Project about a month ago on another Forum (Relicnews Forums for thsoe of you who are on both) and I realized I had forgot to post it up here! Well, when I left the Relic Community I sold off everything I owned of Warhammer 40k. Well, I'm two years older and lacking something to do now that my football season is over, now im back with a new spark of interest created by a friend of mine who plopped some gently used Space Marines and Tyranids in my lap. Now, 'gently used' is a vague and slightly off term. Simply put, I have a bit of a challenge on my hands, and I LOVE challenges. Though, this one might be a bit more than I can chew. With not a lick of skill anymore (Lets just say it all went out the window when I quit, two years is a bit of time to forget skills... especialy for a 16 year old.) I have undertaken this challenge of revitalizing these models. Models - 22 Space Marine Standard Models -- 2 Rocket Launchers -- 2 Converted Flamethrows into Bolters (It slightly interesting) - 1 Special Unit from the Battle for Macragge (The Pilot) - 1 Predator Anniholator(?) - 1 Space Marine Bike. This is Just Space Marine Models, I found a few Extra Goodies in the bottom of the box (Yes Box..... I told you 'Gently Used' was a vague term..) - 2 Tau Crisis Suits (?) Little Vague on the Tau Units, Correct me if I am Wrong (Pics Will be Below) - 1 Tyranid Carnefex - 1 HQ Unit (I forget what its Called, I will look the stuff up later) - Rougly 1000 Points worth of a collection of Termegaunts Hormagaunts and Genestealers. (I have yet to bring them out of the box) Just like the title, im bringing it back from the ashes... which was brought back from the ashes (Make you wonder how I am bringing these models and blog back if they have been burned..twice..) Anyway, its been awile since I updated, I got a little sidetract with some Real Life Issues (girls girls girls) anyhow, I did get a few things done, the Ravener and Hive Tyrant are soaking in a pine oil bath (Don't worry, there both full metal). I also made a Major breakthrough on the Predator. I got it dis-assembled! http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/Warhammer/P2070039.jpg It took about two days but I did manage to pry the pieces appart, and Found some Heavy Bolter sponsoons nd the Cannon. I also swapped the old storage box on the top for a diffrent one. Also during this time I took a look at BillyBobs Tutorial on Destructable Rhino Chassis and Made the Predator Destructable, But that was after the two days of disasemblement and then another day of tring to scrape off the Model Cement that the previous owner used to glue it together (Permenant bonding my @%$#&) Here is the Pred Built (Still un-stripped and nu-primed and un-painted) http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/Warhammer/P2070040.jpg But I do have a few problems I dont have a clue on how to fix, mabey a more experianced modelist can help me out? 1.) The Hatch doesn't shut all the way, I think that Filing the sides down some will to the trick but I'm not sure. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/Warhammer/P2070041.jpg 2.) My second problem is the Cannon, It doesnt seem to want to stay together, even after I clued it, I have tried twice to glue it down, but it pops off, and i have to scrape the glue back off and try again http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/Warhammer/P2070050.jpg 3.) My third and Final Question, How to put Broken sponsoons back onto the connecters, here is a pic http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/Warhammer/P2070051.jpg Simply put, these sponsoons and a few other tank parts I got from the previous owner are broken off, and I don't know how to put them back on, I tried glueing them but Its harder than it sounds. Anyway, thats whats up-to-date on the predator, Pics soon of the Hive Tyrant and Revaner as soon as there done soaking in the Pine Oil. But I have one more question, What to paint them? I gave it a second thought, and now im at the delema on what to paint them, I realy like the Imperial Fists and Black templars, I also like the Ultramarines. But after playing Dawn of War and Reading some Blood Ravens fluff, they are appealing to me. Right now im more leaning to the Blood Ravens and Imperial Fists. Yes I know, Wall-O-Text, but that is the two main posts from the otehr Forum with updates. Anyway, Im still stuck on the Delema of what Chapter to make them, Before I left the Warhammer scene, I was big into the fluff, I wrote a number of backstories for friends who where to lazy to come up with there own. This has realy affected me in a Negative way, While I like to write Fluff, I don't want to write an entire history again, So I was looking at already made Chapters with some decent amount of fluff and wiggle room (as to write up some shorts). Basicaly I had come up with a few of the Chapter apporved chapters. The more 'set in stone' chapters are the Blood Ravens and Imperial fists, I also looked at Raven guard, Iron hands and such. I am still looking, but Idea's are alwas welcomed. And aside from Real-life issues, UPS does suck, I was waiting on an order of paints and such and they sent to to Saudi Arabia, so, I'm still waiting on that. blackblade68
I don't think I've ever seen a Raven Guard army so in I think that would be cool. Try scraping the paint off before gluing a certain area, and are you using super glue or plastic glue? If using plastic glue I'd put some in between the parts of the cannon and taping around it until it dries. I find that some super glues don't really work that well with plastic bitz. I had the same problem with the back as well, and then I tried to take the back off (glue wasn't completely dry, at least thats what I thought...) and I broke the pin that fits into the bottom slot . But I did manage to glue it back together. Hope I helped a little. shrike.ex
I would use model glue (the kind that melts the plastic together) and a clamp, even if it is just a rubber band wrapped around the barrel a few times, to fix the cannon. Brother Azeek
Hmm.. Thanks guys, Just glued it together with some model glue, so far it seems to be working, we will find out tomorow. On a side note I have narrowed my search to a chapter down a bit. I realy liked the Badeb War campaign (Even though, Sadly, I was not into the hobby at the time) and I kinda wanna do the Howling griffons, they have some wonderful fluff.. But i absolutely hate there Color scheme. On the flip side I also wouldn't mind having a Chapter that was created relatively the same time I entered the hobby. This would inclued anything from the Medusa V Campaign (I wasn't appart of, but that was the Major Campaign at the time). The Blood Ravens are also another chapter I wouldn't mind doing, I love the fluff, and as a big fan of the Librarian, they would be perfect. The only thing that scares me is the fact there fluff is driven from an outside source. I'm scared that I may make fluff for a company and then the Developers of the game may Drive it in a direction that would make the homegrown fluff I wrote clashing with the 'Official Canon' I'm more so leaning to the Blood Ravens, but the fact stated abovve Scares me enough to halt me from doing them. Brother Azeek
Double Post! Heresy! Well, aparently my Paints I ordered ended up is Saudi Arabia (Damn UPS guy, alwas mixing up my packages). Anyway, I got fed up with waiting for the paints, so i desided to jump into the unknown, which realy.. is everything. Starting from scrach, making a wet palatte, mixing colors, you know the drill, i went ahead and started this. you're probably tired of me talking, ill jsut get right to the eyecandy (Or eyebarfing, taking your pick) Found some of that old, and IMHO finely sculpted BfM terrain. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/P2200001.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/P2200002.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/P2200003.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w303/sk8rsurf3rdud3/P2200005.jpg NOTE : Colors in pictures are slightly darker in Person Colors used -Chaos Black -Skull White -Scab Red -Graveyard Earth The model was Basecoated (Spraypainted) Black, From there I played with the wet palatte and graveyard earth, the color you see there is pretty much a random assortment of wet, strait from the can, and a combination of the two graveyard earth. With the Main structure, I had re-made my wet palatte (I figured I had used to much water/papertowel) And the Gray was done with three layers of a mix of Chaos Black, Skull white. I do intend to bring up the sand/gravel up another shade of brown, as with the Red plating, I want the red to be a Blood Ravens red. I might also bring the Grey up another shade if you guys deem it to dark Also I wil lbe adding highlights to it, But I just wanna get a little C&C before I move ahead. 75 Chaos black : 25 Skull white 50 Chaos Black : 50 Skull white ~30 Chaos Black : ~70 Skull white (By the way im horrible with Ratios, so lets just say 100 is full of that end of the Spectrum  ) I think it would be 4:1 , 1:1 , 3:7, like I said, im horrible with ratios. Anyway, C&C Is alwas Welcomed (Please, do chop it up, I'm never going to learn without pointers) P.S. If you would like a full over head shot I can upload that real quick.
