GunnarRedsun
Ok, so i was just wondering how other people view dreads. Personally i LOVE them. i have at least 6 built for my wolves, not counting my venerable dread. I like to give a good range of equipment. one has a twin auto or assault cannon, 1 a multi melta, 1 has 2 twin aunto cannon, 1 twin las cannon w/missile, 1 plasma cannon, 1 ironclad (with chain fist), and then my ven dread (with twin las). all of them can have heavy flamers or storm bolters. usually i try and run at least 2, if not 3. once in a great while i will run 4 (eschewing the wolf guard, i know i know) just to confuse my opponent. anyways, i obviously love them, but, again, i was wondering what you all think of them, and how you equip/run yours. any wolf, i look forward to hearing you views, cheers. hendrik
i love them why do you arm your ironclad with chainfists? any special reason? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161151-dreadnaughts-love-or-hate/#findComment-1891931 Share on other sites
Fellblades
I love my dreads, especially my good ol' ven dread. The high BS and WS are invaluable, and he never ever seems to die. It puts a smile on my face when he can endure an entire turn of fire from an IG army and survive to tell the tale. Plus, he is a beast in CC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161151-dreadnaughts-love-or-hate/#findComment-1891947 Share on other sites
Dark Bjoern
I love dreads. A Marine (SM;SW;CSM;GK) without at least 1 dread is incomplete to me. I have 7 for my SW, 4 for my GK, 2 for my Salamanders and 2 for my TSons. And i have ideas for 4 more dreads. Â I run my SW always with four dread at 1500 points. I love the look of my opponents when they see my ven dread with his "retinue" of three normal dreads. Durfast Spiritwolf
I normally run a VD tooled for CC but that's it. However, with the predator becoming quite expensive in C:SM, I'm busy converting a few dreads as HS options. GunnarRedsun
i run with the chainfist because i like the overkill against certain things, like bunkers, and it scares people. i'm not really sure why, but for some reason people see the chainswords slapped to the dread close combat weapon and they freak. and when people freak, i win :P. other than that, i made the chainfist because i thought that putting the chainswords on the dccw would look cool, and it was a chance to convert something that i've been wanting too for a while, but hadn't been able to justify :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161151-dreadnaughts-love-or-hate/#findComment-1891970 Share on other sites

Vassakov
They're functionally immortal killing machines, each a hero steeped in glory and war, a veteran of a million bloody battlefields who has stood toe to toe with the fiercest of mankinds enemies and emerged battered, broken but unbowed. They are a pillar of a Chapter, legends of the Imperium capable of turning the tide of battle with but a sweep of their mighty weapons. Â I love them, they to me are everything that is great about the Astartes. And, with the notable exception of the GW Venerable, are amongst the great models of GW and FW. Fang head
I love my PC toting Ven Dread. It's a stopin, shootin machine of DOOM! Many an enemy comander has fallen to him, either in close combat or in a flash of plasma. Grey Mage
Dreadnaughts, and venerable dreadnaughts in particular, are one of the reasons why I loved space wolves to begin with. Sure it was only the tale of bjeorn at the time... but the idea that there were still people around whod been fighting since before the horus heresy was impressive... and I loved the look of the hulking warmachines in the pictures. Â The RT era dreadnaught on the other hand is just... ugly. It looks more like a killa-kahn to me. Â Ven-dread is my go to HQ. As long as he can be, he probly will be my go-to HQ. Losman
Used my Ven Dread (ass can, flamer/dccw) in a drop pod for the second time today. Man it has really worked out great both times. Landed perfectly, got out destroyed a vehicle and did not suffer any consequences. Also got me first turn both games on the reroll, so I have to go with love em. First game was against IG and second was versus dark eldar. Jonny Wolf
I just wish they were more on line with Monstrous Creatures. Tired of going up a Demon Prince or Nid and it takes on good hit from them to kill my Dred, yet I have to pound the hell out of them 5 times. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161151-dreadnaughts-love-or-hate/#findComment-1892939 Share on other sites
WG Vrox
I just wish they were more on line with Monstrous Creatures. Tired of going up a Demon Prince or Nid and it takes on good hit from them to kill my Dred, yet I have to pound the hell out of them 5 times  Thats been my experience as well with all the Meltas, AP1 high str weapons, Monstrous creatures or tank busters my Dreads don't last long enough to get their points back. If I do run them its as a ranged unit. I find the Auto Cannon / ML setup does not attract as much attention as a LC build, but still can do some serious damage to high toughness / light armor units. As we are seeing more bikes and Attack bikes on the field, its a great setup for taking em down with a lower point build and mid target priorty unit.  WG Vrox Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161151-dreadnaughts-love-or-hate/#findComment-1893018 Share on other sites
deedark
Always my first HQ choice , mostly AC/CCW/HF in a pod for ranged PC and ML Â I normally only run the Vdread but am considering building at least one more for range HS with PC/ML or LC/ML - like my OBEL Scouts so 3 dreads max for me. DGC
I love my Dreads. Nearly always take one as an HQ, usually A/C, H/F, DCCW etc. With 5th edition and the change of the main weapon now being the Multimelta I had to build a new one to give me some more options. I also have a third one which is the standard twin L/Cs and M/L for a bit of long range fire support.  The most I have fielded at once is two, but now I have three I might just try that for a laugh.  I also normally drop pod my HQ Dread and keep the long range one on a hill on in cover just to scare my opponant - sometimes works as well - they just can't quite work out wether to ignore them or pour everything into them.  My next project is build a forth one based on grimtuff's 'Dognought'. If the finest and hardest marines can be interred for eternity to help in future battles, why not a Space Wolf with the mark of the wolfen - close combat monster in a crispy crunchie shell  Catcha - DGC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161151-dreadnaughts-love-or-hate/#findComment-1895396 Share on other sites
Thylacine
I do like my Dreadnoughts. Â I doubt that I have played a game without a V-dread as a HQ choice and a standard dread to back it up. I took two plasma cannon dreads to last weekends game, they lasted the full six turns taking at least two models each out of the units the fired at every turn. Â At last count I had seven 3rd ed metal, one 4th ed Venerable and five RT dreads, they always make their points back and are one of the better choices in the SW list. Wolf Guard Nostromo
I have three dreads which have all served me well. Great models, particularly old Bjorn (who was the first model I can honestly say I was pleased with the painting standard of!) and great impact/linebreakers.  However, I strongly agree that they are somewhat unbalanced against monstrous creatures and the like who they have to wound repeatly. My ven dread, who is a real staple of my force, has never been destroyed by ranged weapons but has been ripped apart many a time by nasty combat beasts (carnifex infestations anyone?) and Khârn the betrayer killing him twice!  I do still love them BUT I can't deny that I now lean towards vindicators for around the same points cost as a regular dread... More mobile and equally scary for my opponent.  May the new codex, eventually, bring us the true return of Bjorn the Fell Handed! bareserker
I NEVER used my Ven Dread in Close Combat always as a stay back and shoot the hell out of things beast ! Â for my Apoc game next week I'll be bringing 3 IronClads and 2 VenDreads to the party. Losman
If you really want to love your DN use em in a 500 point game as an HQ choice. Kinda mean cause not many armies will have an answer for em at that point level but it is nice that we have that option.
