My new Nurgle Demons Army -- Pandemus' revenge

Hi all, after another game with daemons I finally have the next final (lol) army composition. I will explain the choices afterwards:

GUO, Cloud of Flies, Breath of Chaos

14 Plaguebearers, icon

14 Plaguebearers, icon

7 Plaguebearers

7 Plaguebearers

7 Nurglings

Demon Prince, Cloud of flies, Iron hide, Mark of Nurgle, noxious touch, Wings

Demon Prince, Cloud of flies, Iron hide, Mark of Nurgle, noxious touch

Defiler, Phlegm

With this army I have different troop types where possible:

2 different prince -- both are unique (as far as useful) as princes always should be.

A single defiler. It is cool looking as a centerpiece of the army though he might be not the best choice (I still don't understand why:-D). But it is a model with completely different rules and speed. Fun to play. I halso have made a concept for a scratch built model that will be my next modelling project.

Nurglings are a must-have, this is a fluff-choice mostly.

The Plaguebeares -- Icons ARE useful! I know this after Defiler, GUO and Winged Prince materialized 7, 9 and 11 inches into the wrong direction, directly away from the enemy to my side!!

Epi would definately help, but from your previous army lists it's fairly clear you don't want to use him (why this is is beyond me). Drop the breath from the GUO and put it on a prince. (That's all I can be bothered to say right now)

Hi, there is two things I don't like about epidemus:

He is a special character and the miniature looks ugly! Even if this army is not competitive I will be able to improve its performance everytime I play. At least it might be enough to avoid being smashed and to make my opponents lifes harder!

I former times (1996 and so on) many people didn't like to use special characters. Can't you remember?

The next thing I post a thread in this forum will hopefully be a pictutre of my army!

EDIT: Yeah, the breath will be best on the flying prince I think!

Tell your group to get their heads out of their asses and play the damn game. Banning SCs is like banning Heavy Support or squads painted purple, it's stupid and arbitrary.

Now if you can't get Epi at all, then you need to load up on as many MCs as possible. 2 GUOs, 3 Princes (Grinders are fine too, but you need some speed), and PBs to score. Nurglings are great speed bumps as are Beasts.

Bring another Greater Daemon.

Your plaguebearers are there for the ability to score; you probably don't need to bring 30 of them AND the tarpit nurglings.

It's not the 'old days.' There's no 'may I bring this guy?' crap to deal with. Given the trend of 'HQ unlocks army type' we're seeing, that kind of thinking means that you're killing a lot of a codex's versatility and builds.

Grinders are fleet, which is faster than a walking Prince. For 160, you get a guy that fleets, fires a massive template, and cranks out S10 attacks in melee. For the same price for the prince, you get a little less vulnerable to melta weapons, but slower and more afraid of powerfists and thunder hammers.

It's mostly about the capabilities you want in your army.

Without running Epedemius, mono-Nurgle gets to choose. It can take Grinders for the strong shooting component, which Princes simply can't do.

Grinders can also be run as cheap 135pt assault machines, but are one Immobilized result away from crying. But, at 135, it beats any 135pt Daemon Prince build.

The other real question is 'how much melta do you see in your area'? Melta weapons will do a great job of stopping assaulting Soul Grinders, but they only knock a wound off the DP. The squad attached to the melta or plasma weapon can still potentially damage the DP, but T6 makes it less of a risk (unless it's a bunch of angry crisis suits with plasma rifles and missile launchers, in which case you might be in trouble).

200ish for the greater-daemon stand-in, 160 for the shooty grinder, or 135 for the smashy grinder.

With mono-nurgle, I think it's closer to taste between the first two.
