Instead of. You can take only one save: Armor, Cover, or Invulnerable. Generally, you pick the best one available when rolling for a save. Of course, there are exceptions, based on wargear, powers, and special rules for specific units in different codexes.

Yep, 3 with BP/CCW. Then when you charge, get another for a total of 4 S5, I5, Rending Attacks per DC. Nasty to be on the receiving end of that. ;)

Oh wow, I only claimed 2, then a 3rd for charging. I took out a 10 girl squad of howling banshees in one turn, between shooting with my 5 DC and Lemartes and the Assault phase from them... again, this was with only 3 attacks each. Naaaaaasty. :)

Gotta ask how you did that, seeing as Howling Banshees always strike first thanks to their damnable helms? With 2 power weapon attacks, 10 of them, at Ws 5, roughly 10 should hit, then since they're S3, what, about 4 or 5 will wound (making quick assumption you Mathhammerers), leaving you with 4 or dead DC?

I took out about 3 or 4 in the shooting phase, he had some TERRIBLE rolls, but I'm not sure. The guy whose army it was took charge in terms of telling me how many rolls I get when, cuz I'm newbie!

Bike models (not just marines) are always locked in combat as they follow the normal assault rules.

Bikes with "hit and run" may leave combat at the end of any assault phase.

All vehicles (unless otherwise noted) can move out of combat - walkers are one of the few who cant as they are treated as infantry in assault (ie - follow normal assault rules)

It does happen. Sadly mathhammer doesnt take into account just bad luck. Ive just played again when I rolled 14 "to hit dice" and rolled 7 ones and only one 4+ which then caused no wounds.

Or a full sternguard squad with pedro cantor rolling 27 attacks and killing only 2. (this doesnt count the power fists)

When you assault, your strength and initiative stats count as one higher than they actually are for that turn. So, for example my bloodletters have strength 4 written on their profile, on the turn they assault (and only that turn) they count as having strength 5, so therefore rather than wounding marines (toughness 4) on 4's, they wound on 3's. Same with initiative, you get to strike at one initiative step higher than normal, so you can often either attack first or simultaneously if you'd normally attack after your enemy.

Hope that helped.

Edit- That was quite long winded, sorry :D

When do you take cover saves? Before or after armor, or is it instead of?

Wait, wait wait.

I thought you took all 3.

If i'm wrong i'm conferring some serious advantages on myself!

Also, if I'm wrong, I think you can use a cover save with yur armor /invuln save?

In fairness, I'm assuming he gave the same to his opponents?

The option is for a second storm bolter. The pintle is the part the normal storm bolter goes on.......ok that was a terrible explanation. At the front of the rhino hull there are two holes at the top, each about half inch across (rough guesstimate), the pintle goes in there, go through the box of bits for your rhino and it should be fairly easy to figure out what the pintle is. I should probably point out that only one pintle mount comes with the box, so to have two you'd need to find a second one. Fortunately all the tanks based on the rhino (predator, vindicator etc) come with the pintle as well, but in most cases you don't have to add it to the tank. In fact I think only the vindicator has it standard.
the first storm bolter is not defined as pintle mounted. in the 4th ed rules the gun fired from the hull of the tank. now it's a bit more grey - suffice it to say that you could mount one SB on the top of the rhino (as is typically seen in pictures) and the other on the "pintle" or the small anti-personnel turret that is so common on top of main turrets of real tanks (IG have loads of these, too). the bit, as Malachi noted, is on the standard SM tank accessory sprue ("landraider hatches sprue") - its the cuppola with the stick on it.
