[BatRep] Wolves vs Imperial Guard(2000)

TODAY, ALAS TODAY MY BROTHERS! Today calls for ale. Some traitorous guard decided to fall from the light of the Emperor, nay, they didn't damn themselves through the Ruinous Powers, but they fell all the same. And so, the Wolves decided to show them the err of their ways, to openly denounce the Emperor, to throw out lies, slander, and filth. It is a thing that got my blood BOILING!

And so, in two thousand points of Wolves, we took to the plain-filled fields of Kharadas, Wolves and Hammer, and exchanged blows of titanic proportions.

I will say, whelps, he came prepared. In their traitorous fashion, they convinced even some of the Armoured Company to come along with them, specifically Leman Russ', Basilisks, and a Chimeara. The troops consisted of stormtroopers and regular detachments.

He did not anticipate what I brought though! The Wolves took to the field with an Old One, Venerable Dreadnought Vrox! Sigurd preached his litanies and fury to a pack of Blood Claws, whilst Ragnar guided a pack of Grey Hunters with his wisdom. They were transported in a Land Raider Crusader and Land Raider respectively. In support, Vrox, sadly, had to slog along and fire his bolter and assault cannon along the way. A storm had taken to Kharadas, it had made the usage of Drop Pods not worth it, lest we lose a Brother to lazyness. Supplemented by a Leman Russ Exterminator and Vindicator, along with some more troops, the Wolves had caught the scent of a traitor, and went on the Hunt.

Initially (turn 1), there was much movement. Brilliantly Lord Vrox used the hilly terrain to his favor, waiting until the time was most beneficial for him to unleash his terrible fury. Ah, such is the patience and wisdom of an elder. Our armour moved into positions most beneficial, the Land Raider moved amongst an open part of the battlefield so that he might unleash himself upon an enemy Leman Russ. Given the nature of the Crusader, and its passengers, they took a more direct approach, thirsting for battle.

The enemy was trying to find tactical advantage amongst these fields, in the hilly areas so that they might most exploit the terrain. Keep distance between themselves and their hunters. Obviously they do not appreciate the thirst of a Wolf. Moving Basilisks to optimal locations for bombardment, and their blasphemous tanks (I dare not say the name, it would be an insult to Russ HIMSELF!), so that they might use their weapons against us.

Some battle was exchanged, with little consequence. We Wolves were biding our time, preparing for the time to truly assault the prey. Given the difficult terrain, his counter left some to be desired.

Once the battle began to erupt (turn 2) we found ourselves nearly upon the traitors. The armour had begun to fire, whilst others began to fire and assault. Unluckily, through combined arms, an enemy tank fell. Along with a roar, and cheer, of Wolves, the death rained down upon nearby guardsmen. Tempered by sorrow of their fall, the traitors deserved the righteous fire that befell them. Some lived through it, but given their cowardice nature (I mean, they couldn't even stand up for the Emperor!), they ran from battle. Pitiful. The blood smelled...motivating. Let it not be said, by the end of this side, some of our honourable Brothers had fallen. They shall be remembered, friends, forever.

A suprising conclusion (turn 3). I was there, Brothers. A friend, a peer of my own, Sigurd, he is brilliant. A shout went out, "NEVER, EVER, LET A WOLF FALL UPON YOU!!!" And with that, his booming voice let out the call of assault. His Blood Claws fell upon Guardsmen. They were furious, destroying all in front of them. Yes, the Guardsmen there attempted to flee. But let us be honest, a human cannot outrun a Son of Russ. Slaughtered, all of them. Perhaps in death, hopefully in death, they will return to the Light. In the meantime, Ragnar led some Grey Hunters armed with Bolters, and some Wolf Tooth necklaces, to assault Stormtroopers. Elites, they are. In professional, seasoned manner, they responded to the charge. They held up initially, what with the luck they held up. It was suprising, I'll tell you, to see someone not filled with the Light of the All-father to fight with such determination. Alas, we understood why Ragnar is a Lord at such a young age. Small in tooth, perhaps, but not in fury. At every fell of his sword, a Guardsman died. Brother Hrolf informed me that he did not miss once. Such fury, tempered with such skill, a credit to our Brotherhood, he is.

In other areas our Land Raiders had sewn their fury upon units and armour. Vrox, frustrated without his pod, neared a far edge of Guardsmen. Alas, he was not within range to assault them. Venerable, truly, their piddly fire could not penetrate his armour. Casualties, such is war, were taken upon both sides. I regret to inform you brothers, of a terrible tragedy. A basilisk, hidden from much of battle, took its toll. It fired upon a rhino, destroying it, and killing all within. An insult of this magnitude, to take the life of a Wolf without even giving them the credit of battle, it was insulting! Retribution would be at hand. Let it not be said, with the luck of the All-Father and Russ' spirit, we made far more progress than could be expected (I got incredible rolls, 5s and 6s almost always when I need them, lots of saves, all that).

Finally (turn 4), it was consolidation and elimination. We began to take our toll upon their numbers, breaking them. Seeking to finish them off and break some final armour, the Guardsmen repented from their betrayel, conceding the battle. Aye, the Black Ships will see them all dead, but let it not be said that they didn't, finally, come to realize the righteous fury of the SONS OF RUSS, THE WOLVES OF FENRIS!

Alas brothers, my battle-recorder on my helmet had been forgot at the Fang, so visual recordings are lacking(In other words, I forgot my camera). But, having returned to the Fang, I share this tale with you over a stein of ale and roast (I make it every Sunday after matches, yeah, I know, I'm a dork), of the brutality, and fury, of us.

FOR RUSS...AND THE ALL-FATHER!

Excellent to see the scum purged in such a manner - but tell us, were you supported by scouts? They are a must have for this kind of endevour, sowing terror and confusion with melta and plasma. My pack once racked up two of their foul tanks and a score of infantry with this manuvore.

Nonetheless, a glorious victory. As Vash says, bring forth more Ale!

Nice battle, but how did you use 4 heavys?

Friendly match. He wanted to, to see if he liked the idea of a more tank-based army (I'm taking it as he wants to do Armoured Company), so he took two Leman Russ style tanks and two Basilisks. In turn, I took what I took. Honestly I was fine with it since my LRE and Vindi don't see much action, :)

And yeah, one of my Elite spots were taken up by scouts with OBEL. Meltas, yay!

Well done, mate. Glad to see that time on the range hasnt dulled your teeth

However....how in Russ' name did a rhino blowing up kill everyone inside? Even if it explodes, the passengers only take a str 4 hit that's armorsavable. Statisically speaking, in a squad of 10, you should only see 2ish casualties. Remember, the hit against the tank does NOT count as hitting the infantry too! That's actually what makes BC's or even GH's so deadly in rhinos. Even it exploding means that few will die, they just pass a Ld test to not be entangled, and then they are free to either counterassault if charged, or to charge in to assault the next turn. Few can rhino rush like the wolves can :)

I meant over the course of time, they took some fire after words. Never got to melee.
