Bigdog
Hi guys, I finally got started with my Space Marine battle company. I initially wanted to do NMM true-scale marines for this army but after a few trial and error attempts realised that it would take far too long to be practical and until I had a finished 40K army, I still wouldn't be getting many games in :D I liked the imagery of 300 and like quite a few guys out there at the moment, thought I'd try a Spartan themed army. I as I wanted to get a playable army ready quite quickly, I didn't go in for any heavy conversion work that I normally enjoy and stuck to building the minis straight out of the box. I just used the gold and red colour scheme and the iconography to give the army a little flavour. I have mixed up my own gold paint for these and I'm pretty happy with it but wish it could have been even more reflective. Still, i think it worked out okay in the end. They've been base-coated and had a few details added but once I finish painting the battle company, I intend to go back and do some hard-edge highlights by mixing up the remaining gold with Mithril Silver. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161340-sons-of-talos/ Share on other sites

Bigdog
Awesome badge, how did you manage it? I'd love to say it was freehand but I'd be a blatant liar if I tried that ;) The Spartan helmet is actually waterslide transfers I got off the internet from Griffon Games. They do them in a wide range of colours and you get loads of them in 4 sizes on one sheet, from really tiny, to tactical shoulder pad sized, terminator shoulder sized and land raider door sized. If you're looking for shoulder designs I'd highly recommend them.  Mate they look well impressive! Love the Termie with the two power swords, he looks bas ass!!!! Like your chapter symbol, are they free hand? Looks good so far, you done anymore?  The terminator with the Power Swords was initially going to be a captain but I think he'll have to be a Chapter Master with 10 terminators for his bodyguard now. Was going to use the 'counts as' rule to treat the Power Swords as Lightning Claws. Easy conversion too, all I did was trim the old metal terminator captain power sword and use a weapon swap for the right hand and slightly reposition the left 'terminator sergeant' arm. The robe was sculpted on with green stuff, although it could use some tidying up.  So far I've got 2 x 10 man tactical squads with rhinos 1 x 10 man assault squad 1 x 10 man devastator squad 1 x 5 man terminator squad 1 x terminator captain 1 x dreadnought  finished and I have another 2 x 10 man tactical squads base-coated with the gold and ink flesh wash, although they'll probably be a couple of weeks before I get a chance to get them finished with another layer of gold over the top.  As I said, I'm going for a completed battle company so I have another 2 x 10 man tac, 1 x 10 man dev, 1 x 10 man assault, 1 x 5 man command, captain, chaplain, 1 x dreadnought and 7 x rhinos to finish. DibbZi
I"ve always wondered what gold power armor would look like... that be it. Very nice. How did you give your Term SGT the robe??? Bigdog
Very nice. How did you give your Term SGT the robe??? All I did was use some Green Stuff to sculpt it on. I used 3 pieces, one for the front above the belt line, one for the back above the belt line and a third piece for the 'loincloth' part. Once the bits were in place I used a sculpting tool to add the folds in the cloth. I made sure that the robes on the torso were done in such away as to look like they were tucked under the belt. Here's a shot from the back. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161340-sons-of-talos/#findComment-1895239 Share on other sites
