Pig Of Sparta
Well, it's been a little while and I'm back with yet another stand alone project. While experimenting with a model I'm forbidden (by the forum rules :) PM or email me if you're interested) to post here I decided to paint strip a bunch of old mini's to test out the qualities of Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner, (incidentally it works really well at removing paint, better than dettol on plastic in my opinion). To cut a long story short this is one of the mini's I stripped and converted, who know's I might actually paint this one <_<. http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/frontviewa.jpg http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/boltermuzzle.jpg C&C always welcome, I've got a couple of days of work, so hopefully I'll get some painting done alongside my 'black' project :) James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/ Share on other sites

Marshal Rohr
Excellent layer of primer ;) . It look even better one your turn you skills to it! Any fluff for this guy? Pig Of Sparta
Yes and no... all I've got going round my head at the moment is this: "it matters not if you stand or flee in the face of my judgement, these bolts of holy retribution have no preference whether they enter your breast or your back" He's a very militant inquisitor, his armour's going to be olive drab with gold ornamentation, and his cloak will be a rich purple, his only real indulgence of finery. Ompfris
Yeah Green and Gold sounds good. I love this model - I think its my favorite out of the ones I have painted - and i'm sure you'll do an amazing job with this. Pig Of Sparta
Got the cloak and armour basecoated, and I think I've come up with an idea for his base. I'm thinking a 60mm base with marble tiles sculpted on.... possibly a scribe stood slightly off to one side. But that'll come later. In the mean time I'm gonna get started on the metallics and the robe. I'm not sure what colour to go with on the robe though so if anyone can help with suggestions I'd be most grateful, I thought either red or white, but I'm not sure if that'll work... front: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/armourbase.jpg back: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/cloakbase.jpg any other C&C is welcome James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1896724 Share on other sites
Ompfris
the Green and red look good to gether so far, when your comming to the final touches (i'm sure you'll get there with this one) I would do an orange trim on the inside of the robe - it should bring the gren out more. also thinking of the millatry style are you thinking of painting and gold stars on him? - I know the model leaves little room for freehand but i think some kind of ranking would look good. Pig Of Sparta
To finish today I made a start on the bionics and ornamentation on the armour. I also gave the fur 'ruff' a quick shading wash before I start working it up. @Ompfris: I'm thinking of doing a NMM type design on the inside of the cloak just to add a little bit of detail. I'm not sure about the stars but I might be able to fit some kind of rank designation in somewhere. Oh, and I'm going to try really, really hard to actually finish this one :D http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/metalliccoat1.jpg I've got a scribe soaking in some mr muscle as I type so I'll get it cleaned up and started asap. Until I make more progress feel free to leave c&c, and also any suggestions on the loincloth-robe colours would be greatly appreciated. Reyner
Looking good so far  Mr Muscle for stripping minis you say? Does it damage plastic at all? Pig Of Sparta
Looking good so far :tu: Mr Muscle for stripping minis you say? Does it damage plastic at all? Last question (hehe) how long did you leave them in it? Yeah, it's really really good. It doesn't damage plastic at all, and infact (in my opinion) works better than Dettol. The longest I left mini's in it was over night (around 10 hours) and the shortest was 2 hours. After 2 hours a quick scrub should be sufficient to remove all but the thickest paint. my favorite inquisitor model ever, and it looks like youll be doing him justice! Neophyte of Slaanesh
Occasionally I get jealous of the models of you Imperial players. Really beautiful stuff! Master Toddius
So in wargear terms -- do you play with Inquisitors, or just enjoy the cool models? I was just wondering because he doesn't have any power weapons, and if hes to be used as an anit-DS unit coupled with mistics, and then to be more useful with some gun servitors and sages I would think a Psycannon on him would be more appropriate as it brings his best attributes to bare against the enemy, IMHO. :P Green and Red with Gol details will look great on him. I don't think I've seen any of your previous work so this will be an interesting showing. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1897361 Share on other sites
marshall Egregorius
so he doesn't have a sword? swords are cool though! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1897415 Share on other sites
Pig Of Sparta
I don't really play at all just now, and I keep drifting away from my Space Marine and Imperial Guard armies, so I mostly (try to) paint cool models. Usually I see something that inspires me or think 'that might look cool' and give it a whirl, or as in the case of this one, I come across models I painted when I wasn't so skilled and think 'I could do better now'. I wanted him to have the sword he comes with, but sadly I cut that up a few years back and used it on a (now in pieces) Coteaz conversion, as I'm too poor to buy a whole new mini just for the sword and couldn't find one on Ebay, I tried a couple of swords I did have (marine captain and terminator sarge) but they just didn't look right. A quick trawl through my bits box unearthed the bionic hand from a servitor. It just kinda looked right so I went with it. I can see what you're saying from player's point of view, he is a little under-armed. I like to think that he's got an armoury full of lovely artificer crafted toys on his indentured transport, but for this mission just decided to take his favoured boltgun. Or he left his sword in the umbrella stand when the Apostate Cardinal let him in and he doesn't have time to go back and get it :( James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1897428 Share on other sites
Master Toddius
I completely understand the $$ aspect and also going with what looks cool. I have extra armor on all my tanks because I like the looks even though it costs a fortune in points. What you could do is take SM combat knives and form a custom single handed lightning claw with the extra conversion bit that was added to the arm. It looks like it would work, and you probably have at least 4 blades in the bitz box to make it happen. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1897955 Share on other sites
Pig Of Sparta
The lightning claw sounds like a good idea, and if I hadn't already started painting I'd give it a try. Still it's something I'll keep in mind and you never know you might see it at some point in the future. Btw, all tanks shoud have extra armour in my opinion, what armour crew wouldn't want to increase their chances of survival? ;) James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1898374 Share on other sites
son of nocturne
Alrite James! This model is coming along well! How about with the loin cloth have it in a very stereotypical inquisitor colour or is that not what your going for..? i dont really know what a typical inquisitorial colour is... ooh and that conversion was good enough to convince me that this is how the model was origionally released by GW!!! Brilliant work as usuall, cant wait to see some progress. The Emperor's Champion
Inquisition colors are black, red and gold. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1902215 Share on other sites
Pig Of Sparta
I'd like to think that as they are pretty much a law unto themseves they could wear whatever colours they choose. I agree that predominantly they tend towards black, red, gold and white, but each individual Inquisitor would choose his attire to suit his personal tastes and/or the environment he was operating in. This Inquisitor for example is wearing military grade carapace armour. Whilst he was an Interrogator he underwent training with Kasrkin candidates on Cadia. Upon completing this training he had his master's artificers suitably enhance and embellish the basic design of a suit of Kasrkin armour to better suit his tastes and requirements. Here's the latest update: front: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/sashandflesh.jpg back: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/cloakhighlights1.jpg As you can see I've gone for a white loincloth/robe, which just needs a few layers of white to finish off. The cloak is mostly finished apart from painting a design on the inner surface which will be done once I've sketched a few possibilites out. The armour still has a couple of highlight coats to go, as does the sash. The flesh still needs a few layers and I'm really not sure what colour to do the wrist band or the bolter casing so they'll have to wait till I figure it out. There's a few other details to do as well, but he's getting there :D More coming soon, until then all c&c is welcome, James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1902452 Share on other sites
Pig Of Sparta
Another week some more painting done... He's getting there now, just a few bits and pieces left to finish up (not least the white cloth) and tidying of highlights to be done. Just as well as I'm itching to get started on yet another conversion project :D stupid short attention span... On to the photos, front: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/frontview2.jpg back: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/rearview2.jpg Regrettably, I don't think I'm going to go for the large base with scribe idea I had near the beginning, but I'm going to try and come up with something that's suitable for one of the Emperor's foot soldiers. Brother Captain
It's coming allong realy nice. The bionic hand is a great idea. It could even count as a power weapon. Inquisitor Lor has a bionic hand which is a power weapon and yours is substantial enough to be the same. My only criticism would be that some colours need more depth or better blending of highlights. I have some suggestions in case you find them helpfull. -Red: Some more highlights, propably with Blazing Orange. A bit more shading with Devlan Mud or diluted Scorched Brown (only in the recesses) -Gold: Some more shading; a green wash (Thraka Green or dilluted Dark Angels Green) would be very nice and it will tie the gold with the green. Some more highlights with Mithril Silver+Burnished Gold and then straight Mithril silver. -Armour: Smoothing of the highlights. Perhaps glazes or an intermediate highlight colour. -White cloth: Smoother transition between highlights and shadows which most propably involve intermediate highlights with mixes of white and grey. I hope I've been more helpfull than boring here. :) I understand it's stil PIP so some of my comments may be irrelevant. Keep up the good work...and stay focused on this mini. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1905756 Share on other sites
Pig Of Sparta
Thanks for the tips Brother Captain. I've done a few of the things you suggested and hopefully the mini looks better for it. There's one or two wee things to finish up, the purity seal needs layering and shading, his boots need highlighting and the cloak needs embroidering, but those'll have to wait till I've got some more time. front: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/frontwhite.jpg side: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/byorder.jpg back: http://i347.photobucket.com/albums/p456/pigofsparta/backhighlights.jpg I'll update when I've done more, in the mean time any and all comments and criticism welcome James Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161458-by-order-of-his-most-holy-inquisition/#findComment-1906817 Share on other sites
