Playing with a titan

Hi all...my first post on this forum...

I had a question about playing with a titan...i just bought a FW warhound and gave it a dynamic pose. After priming and painting it i realized that it needs to be attached permanently to the base in order for it to stand on its own (i had drilled into the feet so i could slide a rod attached to the base for temporary attachment but was too unstable)...

So my dilemma is if i attach the legs permanently to the base (oval base measure 14x12 inches approx) would i be able to use it in a game or does the titian need to be free of the base in order to maneuver the battlefield more efficiently.

so i thought i'd throw the question on this forum to get some advice from you seasoned titan owners...

thanks in advance!

Interaction with terrain is always a problem for big models.

Someone in my group has a scratch built squat colossus and it's so heavy that it damages the polystyrene hills that some of us own.

You need the smallest base possible or it will hamper your interation with other units and with the terrain.

On the other hand, make sure that it's not going to fall over - if it does you'll end up not bothering to use it!

It all depends on how densely packed your Apocalypse tables wind up being, and how much you figure you'll be moving it around. It is a scout titan, so in theory it's supposed to be rather mobile, and has the fleet rules to go with it. In practice, I find towering god-machines with extremely long-ranged weapons don't really need to move too much, but it would be a paint if you did need to move and couldn't because your base was too big...
You should take a base the same size as the foot and fill it with metal bits (Nuts and Bolts and anything else you can find). That should set the center of balance over the leg, thus preventing a fall and the difficulties of moving through terrain with a base. If it still falls over, add more weight; expand the base if you have to. In the event that happens just add another layer of wood with metal bits embedded in it. All this is theory mind you, I only know how heavy a Reaver is and I don't know the pose you put him in.

thanks everyone for your input...

so what ive gathered is that it would be best for the titan to be able to move around and a large base would really hamper movement...so what i think im gonna do off of castus' advice is to stack the heaviest metal disks on top of each other to provide enough weight to counter balance the body of the warhound...currently it needs a can of primer to hold it up...i got this second hand so had to strip the paint...

edit: took off the pictures in this post because i put up new shots of the standing titan

If you can't bring the Titan to the Battlefield I say bring the Battlefield to the Titan! :P

I might do limited foot baseing so that it can stand on its own but nothing more than that.

So by limited foot basing doe you mean having a small base around its foot?

If you can't bring the Titan to the Battlefield I say bring the Battlefield to the Titan!

Wow...i never realized how big your titan was until i saw it in a scale shot with display stands at a store...lol >_>

and he stands all by himself...such a good boy!

I went with the smaller base strategy...i used a stone paver that was really heavy (20 lbs) and chiseled it into a smaller oblong shape hopefully better suited for gaming...thanks to everyone who helped me out...phew twas a life saver

@ Brother Santios: Thanks!

@ Firenze: Yeah youre right...i went back and strengthened his joints with some JBWeld and added some cardboard in the body/pelvis join so the body would tip to the right some...pics below

@Elenaria: Haha thanks...yeah the only way the titan would stand was with a heavy enough base...the warhond+base seriously weighs 20 lbs

He looks awsome! Like he is in a hunting "trot"; not a full scale run or the slow steady gait of a walk but a prepatory trot. Getting right before the fight, when you see the opponents jump up and down to loosen their legs. Great job!
