Rapid Firing Kraken Bolts

I just noticed this: pg 28 of the BRB, under Rapid Fire, whether stationary or moving, you may fire twice up to 12", while stationary you may fire up to the max range in inches. Right?

Which means that while Kraken Bolts (C:SM pg 63) allow you to fire 1 shot at 30" max, Sternguard can only ever Rapid Fire at a max of 12".

This also means that if the new Hellgun profile is correct from the upcoming C:IG, its max range of 18" still means it Rapid Fires at 12".

Am I correct in this?

I've seen people in games rapid fire kraken bolts at 15", explaining that rapid fire was half range, yet it seems that 12" is RF range regardless of actual listed range for the weapon.

Thanks!

As others stated, you are correct. I once was fooled into thinking that rapid fire range was half the weapon's max range, and that idea stems from the statline of the Boltgun. Folks think that since the bolter can fire one shot at max range of 24", and rapid fire at 12", that the math is simply half your max. So, stinky-fish Tau players often try to rapid fire at 15" ranges.
yes 12" is always your maximum rapid fire range. and yes teh tau have mused on this point since their inception. the krootox is an even more extreme version as its gun strapped to its back is a rapid fire weapon taht can fire up to 36" (off the top of my head may be more)

Yep; for a very short time it was half the weapon range and thats what was printed (I think i was a sneek peek deal) And becuase of the pictures show half range people assumed that it was half but with the printing of the rules it is only 12". I have gotten used to not thinking about this but this post as reminded me that we have alot of new tau players around and I should verify the understand the rules
