BC, To Drop or to Mech?

Ok so after reading the army lists and such I've come to an impasse. When fielding a unit of 10 Blood Claws, would they be better served in a drop pod or just leave them in a rhino? This simple question will end up changing my army list drastically. If the answer is Drop pods, then all other transports will be changed, as well as putting my 2 dreads in them. Also, if fielding 3 troop choices of 10 models each, would it be better to go BC x2 GH x1, or GH x2 BC x1....... Yes I realize that putting 15 BC + IC in a LRC is a beast unit, but the group of players in my area are really anti-LR and would take it out faster then it would have a chance to make it's effect felt. (They learned their lesson against LRC thanks to the Grey Knight player and the Black Templars player who always field 3 each and have pushed the others to go slightly heavy weapons happy B))

Well ... I was gonna say that Land Raiders are good ... but the standard variant. 10 BC + IC in a Land Raider can be really effective.

My own personal vote is Mech. I like the mobility and flexibility of rhinos and their continued usefulness once the troops have disembarked. It's hard to beat mobile cover saves! Used wisely, they usually have a decent lifespan ... you just have to learn to use cover wisely.

If you decide to go drop pod ... go with two Grey Hunter units. They really are the ideal DP unit.

lol as Odd as it sounds, i was considering footslogging across the board using Razorbacks attached to all my units, regardless of unit size since you can take it as a dedicated transport even tho it is just a mobile weapons platform and cover till I start taking casualties. :D

Well your grey hunters could certainly use the fire support, but if theyre packing to hunt three landraiders I dont think razorbacks are going to do the trick.

Id say drop pods in your particular circumstances, and say 2:1 GH:BC. Grey Hunters are simply better out of a drop pod... they get to rapid fire, and do well receiving a charge. Bolt pistols at 50% arent goint to do nearly as much. Thus id say the first wave in should be dreads+GH and the second wave in BC+GH.

Give them some scout support to back them up, and maybe a small squad of wolf gaurd, just bring some storm shields.

Don't undervalue the use of scouts in there too, helping your drop pods. They might be taking down a particular tank, (y'know, something that could prove most troublesome) or getting in and nasty on some unit before the rest have to deal with it.

Drop Pods though, fa sho fa sho.

In most circumstances I would go with Rhinos for Blood Claws, but my wise brothers above have it correct that drop pods will seem to be more effective in your situation. I also agree that razorbacks will almost certainly be prime rib for armies used to dealing with land raiders (a mistake I have made... thought I was being clever with razorbacks instead of the expected LRCs).

Get the Grey Hunters involved though as they are very effective in drop pods, and consider popping a rune priest in with the blood claws to stop them despoiling the pod on the way down and for cover saves/striking order when taking counter charges. I tend to back up the first wave of drop pods with a full wolf scout squad with a meltagun and an overequipped pack leader (Bjarki) who are capable of some real heroics. They won me my game today anyway (mainly because their objective target was a keg of ale methinks). Best of luck!
