eyescrossed
Hi all, not wanting to thread-jack, so I started this topic. I think I aready know the answer, but I just wanted to make a new topic to get an easier answer. Can a Broodlord be targeted from his "retinue" of Genestealers? I don't think he can, because of how Legatus put it in another thread, but I just want a specific answer. Thanks. Isiah
When with his retinue he is an upgrade character only [bRB p48] so can't be targetted in close combat as an attached IC could. eyescrossed
And can never leave it? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161682-broodlords/#findComment-1899273 Share on other sites
Isiah
Well he is bought with the stealers as a Brood. They are his retinue. He can't leave a retinue because whilst with them he isn't an IC and only ICs can leave units. He is only an IC again when his retinue is killed. When an IC again, he can join and leave units untill his heart's content. eyescrossed
But they don't have the Retinue rule, like all other retinues out there. The only way he wouldn't be targetted is if he's bought with them all the time. Isiah
He is bought with them. It doesn't matter that the stealers don't have the retinue rule, by dint of him being with them they are his "retinue" as per his entry in the nid codex. eyescrossed
So they're a "retinue", not a "Retinue"? Thanks. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161682-broodlords/#findComment-1899303 Share on other sites
Isiah
So they're a "retinue", not a "Retinue"? Thanks. That depends on whether the word is at the start of a sentence or not . It means the same thing. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161682-broodlords/#findComment-1899308 Share on other sites
HiveFleetEzekial
It's not in the stealer entry, because on their own, they are not a 'retinue'. The retinue part is in the BL's entry. "Brood: One Broodlord and a retinue of 5-11...". Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/161682-broodlords/#findComment-1899329 Share on other sites
eyescrossed
That's a valid point, but couldn't someone say they're not a retinue because they don't have the Retinue rule? I mean, it wouldn't change anything games-wise, but just wondering. HiveFleetEzekial
They could. Then they'd likely get smacked in the back of the head with the codex, and/or BRB, for being a cheesey 'terd. And, for them, it would be in an attempt to try and change things game-wise, most likely. Legatus
The "Retinue" rule in the BRB describes that there are sometimes units available for Independent Characters which they cannot leave during the game, and if that is the case then they count as an Upgrade Character untill that unit is wiped out. All you need for the "retinue" rule to take effect is the prerequisites given in that rule to be met, i.e. having a unit for your character which he cannot leave. There is no need for the rule to be specifically pointed out. If a character comes with a unit he cannot leave, it acts as his retinue.
